50°C Operating Temp + Distributed Computing

My computer runs United Devices (15% load) and Folding@Home (80% load) at the same time and uses 95% CPU power constantly and runs at 50°C operating temperature.

I know 50°C for idle is not good, but if it is at 50°C for full load should I be woried? It feels good knowing that I am putting my comptuer towards something good, but if it is going to significantly decrease the life of my computer or hurt anything, then I will stop.

Any input would be great
 
are u using the stock cooler? because if u are then i think its time for a new HS, i got an XP-90(lapped :D ) and keeps my p4 3.0ghz @ 3.2 @37C(mo-bo limited or I would go higher) its folding 24/7 temp comes down to 33C at night

 
Is it overclocked? My 2400 Mobile runs about the same temp, but its overclocked 25%. Your case temp is kinda high. What kinda case fans do you have, maybe its not getting enought fresh air.

wow, that's pretty good if your case temp is 47C. a 4 degree delta at load is damn good actually. most of these guys have case temps in the thirties so i wouldn't try to compare it to them, it just seems like your case temp is really high which is bringing the temp of the cpu up with it. just add a couple fans to the case or soemthing, get the air flowing around a little better.

...you just said thats good if my temp is 47C...and then you said add more fans?
I have 2 front intake, 1 side intake, 2 rear exhaust, and 1 120mm PSU

And no, my box is not overclocked at all.

Right, it is pretty good with that high of a case temp. The suggestion was to tweak your case cooling which will probably allow your CPU to be cooler as well.

Sounds like your case isn't hot for lack of fans, but it might need some adjusting to make things more efficent.

 
where do you keep your computer? try putting it up on your desk so it has good airflow around it. Also, about how hot is your room?
 
1. What he meant by "47C woah, thats really good" was.. if your CPU is 51C, and your box is 47C, only a 4 degree difference is REALLY good under full load... why he wants you to add more fans, is becuase 47C inside a case is really bad.


Something is amiss here. 47C is 117 degrees F. I realllly doubt its 117 inside your case... unless its 100 ish in your room.

I have the same temps when I run folding at 100%.. around 51-55 C... but my case temp is around 34C... my case temp never moves much from 31-35C.

A case temp of 47C is crazy. Whats the temp in your room?
 
I do not have a thermometer or an accurate temp. setting control in my room (left for colder, right for warmer) but I would guess the room is around 78 or so degrees -- normal.

My comp is located on the floor in a corner by my desk but I would doubt that the positioning of the case would change anything.

Maybe the thing in question is the accuracy of my case temp reader. I dont know where it is placed...it might be near the CPU?

But overall, my main concern is not about the case temp. I am more concerned about "is it safe to have your CPU at full load of 51C 24/7?"
 
my room is 80F usualy, and i get 50C load 45C idle on water cooling and feeding the cpu 1.50v and a 6800 at 1.4v, if my room gets real hot i get 55C load on cpu i guess your mobo sensor is off or you did somthing stupid like make all the fans go in the same direction? intel 90nm prescotts run just fine at 70~80C why cant a 90nm a64? in other words, if a64s cant handle even 50C load amd did somthing really wrong at least in my opinion, whats the use of having a cpu that can run cool if it cant handle getting a lil warm

Its worth a check - go to your motherboards site and look for a newer BIOS. I just did that and my temps jumped a full 10 degrees - the wrong way.:eek: After looking through the release notes apparently there was a problem with the previous version not reporting temps correctly.

 
i would say its on the edge of not being ok. A 64 max temps are supposed to be 65-70C... but thats MAX... not something i think its supposed to be running at 24/7. I think anything in the 50's, for an extended period of time, is probably not a good thing for the processor, and will limits its life. My a64 Oc'ed to 2500, is running 53-55C running folding 24/7, and i am not happy with that at all. Thats why i am building a custom water case to water cool my stuff, and hopefully lower my temp into the 40's.

Just my 2 cents.
