I was reading the review of the 3 GB GTX580 and it seemed to me that a current limitation is VRAM, not GPU power. So, if you go without FSAA, PhysX, or other GPU gewgaws, can you game with 5 screens? I'm thinking 6000x1920 rather than 9600x1200.

Mea culpa. I'm specifically refering to AMD Eyefinity - it's just that the thought occured to me while reading the Nvidia review.,

You can, but make sure you get a card that can support it. Reference 6950's and 6970's only support 4 monitors I believe, but some non reference cards can support 6.

HD 5870 Eyefinity 6 editions (6xMini DP ports) will support 5 screen eyefinity, as will 'standard' HD 6990's (4xMini DP + 1 DL DVI) if you can find them.

The Asus DirectCU II can drive 6 monitors as well. (4x DP and 2x DVI).

I was confused by the original post bc you mentioned turning off PhysX.

I used to visit WSGF years ago, but they are a non-event these days.

The forums over there are pretty much the only resource for eyefinity/surround hud fixes. Once you go triple monitor you will inevitably end up there.

I ran a 5 x 2408 setup with 2 5870e6 cards (wew) in landscape and it was fun, but the support was non existant. we are talking only worked with 10.11a drivers. To my knowledge no other driver would work. It was amazing on the source engine and in burnout paradise. Not quite enough throttle for BC2, and most older games would look at the resolution and not get up off the couch.

I have since sold two of the monitors and am trying to decide what to do with the two 6990s I am sitting on(heat issues in a mAtx...)

Radeon 6990 in Quad Crossfire can push that resolution. 6000x isnt really a whole lot in 5 screens. I game at 6112x1200, bezel corrected res. With decent performance too!

Also if you go 16:10 in your screens whatever the size, you will find that gaming with each LCD at 1600x1200 will be a 1:1 conversion with no loss or skewing other than a lower resolution but it will consume FAR less frame buffer on your GPUs and yield higher performance. Atleast for me it seems to. I play wow single screen because it sucks really bad in eyefinity and even at that I game with 1 screen @ 16x12 and Im using Asus IPS displays.

Looking at those videos, it seems that bezels are a huge issue. Do you find that?
