Well just got back from installing 4 new servers into our data center, took some pictures while up there. Nothing too crazy, I see us adding 4 or so more R610 servers by end of year.

Each R610 has 24 logical cores (Dual E6545, 2.40GHz) and 48gb of ram with room for an additional 48gb upgrade later. Servers have no drives, booting off internal usb sticks.

The 2950 is the first server we put on the SAN, it just hosts some backend virtual machines. An additional 2950 will be added in a few weeks.

The CX4-120 is 45 300gb 15k FC drives.

and before anyone points it out, yes there is no redundant power feed. It tried very hard to change the minds of the higher-ups but I just couldn't do it.

Hopefully when we need additional power we will add another feed from a seperate UPS. That day may come sooner rather than later seeing as we are at 60% on that circuit.

Very nice..and clean..it's nice to see some pride out there. :)

kudos for you for taking good care of the basics. People let that type of shit go astray, and the next thing you know you're working in the rack and you drop a switch.. I'm uuhh not speaking from experience :).

Thanks, its not as neat as I would like it but it will do. the switches are actually going to move a little lower so thats why theres some slack in the cables.

Speaking of messes, here is our other rack. This is NOT my work lol.

Rack has around 12 2950's and about 10 network switches. They were not using VLAN's in this rack and has about 6-7 different internal network segments.

how do you get a job doing stuff like this?

I work as a Systems Administrator, I'm the one with OCD in the group so I usually find myself racking new equipment and running cables in our home office data center and our co-location racks.

Where do you work? how big of a company?

we run around a total 200+ vms between development/testing/prod environments

I'm looking forward to the end of the year when we get to add another shelf or two to our CX4. Hoping we can add one or so to our AX4 also but we will see what the budget numbers look like.

I'm going to take a stab in the dark and guess you meant dual Xeon E5645, not E6545 :p
