I am looking to upgrade to a standalone Receiver, subs and satellites that are a little more powerful than the Logitechs. Would like to keep it under $600. not looking for the best of the best but if any combo is 10- 20% better than the z-5500 I assure that would be PLENTY for me as I am very impressed with the z-5500.

The only thing lacking on the 5500 is the sub, its not the most powerful as its only a 188w 10" unit.

450, I think its fair to tell this guy the truth about that "188W", thats 188W @ 1khz @ 10% THD, which basically means (for the OP): that 188W is "balls to the wall amplifier almost exploding" power output

in other words, a legitimate 100W @ .1% THD (hell even @ 1%THD) sub will blow the Z-5500 apart

I agree with 450's suggestions on both speakers and receiver, listen to the man, it looks good :)

lol, Glad I have this thread to look at later. Moving up from the Z-5500 is a step I couldn't imagine

It's not hard. The Z5500 are okay by cheap computer speaker standards, but pretty bad by hifi standards. Take a trip to even Best Buy and take a look at some floor speakers for $150-200/pr. You might walk back surprised.

Yay, obobski agrees with me.

Energy Take 5 speakers - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882269004 - $179

ASW-8 subwoofer from thespeakercompany.com - $100

Receiver from ebay/craigslist ~$75 - any receiver in the last 3-4yrs will do DD/DTS. Doesn't matter which, they all sound the same.

This is just 1 cheap option that will beat the hell out of the z5500 or any other pc speakers. It'd make a pretty decent HT for a small room.
