i just finished my new comp build and am having trouble getting the audio to work. i am running XP media center edition. i have an onkyo home theater receiver with a 5.1 speaker set up. i connected the receiver to the Line Out on the rear panel of the computer. i put in a dvd using windows media player and no sound came through my speakers. i tried a cd, using media center, still no sound. the onboard audio for my mobo is Realtek HD Audio. i opened the Realtek hd audio manager and tested the speakers and during the test, the front speakers (center, left, right) work. however, the rear surround and subwoofer do not work. also even after hearing the speakers in the test, they will still not play sound from any other source, i.e. media center, real player, itunes, etc. has anyone experienced this problem in the past? what can i do to fix it. thanks for any help, greatly appreciated!

oh, also, i am using a Y adapter cable that goes from the back of my reciever and plugs in to a left/right (red/white) plugs in the receiver and then goes into the Line Out plug on my computer. i then use the receiver to convert to Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. i did this with my laptop using the headphone jack and it worked perfectly. thanks

I'm trying to picture what's going on here, can you post what model Onkyo you are using and what interconnect you're specifically using ? from the sound of it, you're using a stereo mini to L/R composite cable going to your receiver
