5.1 Issue w/ Missing Channels?

I have Klipsch Promedia Ultras and an MSI K8N Neo2 with onboard 6.1 sound (might even be more channels). Anyway, I'm getting sound out of all the channels, but I stuck a DVD-A into my system and tried to listen to it and it sounds as if the whole system is missing a channel. I've listened to the DVD-A in my car before (Acura TL so yes it has 5.1) and the song definitely has an entire channel that I am just not hearing. Any ideas? If I run 3d sound tests and the like I hear the sound go all around me, so it isn't like something isn't setup right. Maybe its an option I forgot to press or maybe Power DVD or whatever I'm using can't do 5.1? Thanks for your help.
 
The only sound card that supports DVD-A right now is the Audigy 2 and above. Right now you're just having PowerDVD play a seperate 5.1 track that's on your DVD-A disc. Quality wise this seperate 5.1 track can't go past 48Khz and is nowhere near the quality of the full-on DVD-A track that you listen to in your car. It's akin to trying to play a DVD-A disc in a dvd player that doesn't support the format, it defaults to this other 5.1 track.

Yeah, why not? As long as you have something like Soundstorm or DTS or Dolby decoding then why not? :p
 
Gale I recommend you check out what makes DVD-A a better audio solution than the 5.1 audio we see in everyday dvd movies, here's some linkage. They are two completely different standards, and DVD-A doesn't have nearly as much support as standard 5.1 audio.

Would I need a decoder or software for it or does it all take place within the DVD software/speakers?
