I tried to use a 5.1 Headset in the past, I think I had the AX something and the Logitech and both of them sucked pretty bad, they were heavy and 5.1 was just not there.
How about these new generation 5.1 headsets that Razer has on their website. Anyone has any experience with them?
 
Am using a Corsair 7.1 USB set now and they are great! control software pretty simple to use also.
 
I am just not sold on having a usb audio card, I already have an Asus Sonar, then this USC card, then the onboard card, then my yeti microphone showing up as an audio device as well....Just so many things to load etc....
 
Using the Skullcandy PLYR 1, great headset. I play bf4 mainly and the positional audio is pretty good. I am hooked on the wireless features too lol
 
Sennheiser 558 and a creative zx will let you hear directional sound much clearer than any of the Razer crap.
 
Were the headsets you were using true 5.1?

A lot of people say that headphones will give you directional sound as good as a real 5.1 / 7.1 headset, but I found that's not true. It's especially hard to tell if the sound you heard came from behind or in front of you.

I had a Turtle Beach 5.1 headset and the directional sound was great, it's been over 4 years sicne it tore apart from me.

I then used sennheiser HD555's. Really comfortable, but I never felt the directional sound was great. You could tell someone was in this general area, but you couldn't pinpoint it. Sounds from behind you were also hard to discern from sounds that were in front of you.

I now have the razer tiamat 7.1. I haven't used it much, but with the short time I played Titanfall with it I could tell you the directional sound was amazing. So easy to tell if something was behind you, and hearing the action from all around you just was great. They're not as comfortable as my HD555 but there may be a "break-in period" that I haven't reached yet.

Any competitive gamer will tell you 5.1 or 7.1 headsets are just a gimmick. Just get a decent sound card and some nice quality cans, you will be much happier.
