Current headphone i got for a while was:
GAINWARD HW-HS5920 3.5mm Connector Hollywood@Home Sound Xplosion 5.1 headphone - Retail

Total price was $30.14 for it.

I don't see any 5.1 headphone selling this cheap anymore :/ and the wire in the headphone broke overtime, so now it is just like a 2.0 headphone.

I finally decided to buy a new 5.1 headphone but a decent one for a decent price costed like
$59.75
Turtle Beach TBS-1112 Circumaural EarForce X-52 Headset - Retail

Anyone know what happened to gainward and why did they stop making the cheap 5.1 headphone that worked well?

Probably because you really do not need 5.1 headphones anymore.

With a good sound card (I use an XFI) that has 3D controls, any headphones can be made into surround sound headphones.

I use a Sennhesier HD555 and it is AMAZING. I can truly tell where fire is coming from in games and it sounds like I am using a surround sound system. It seems impossible, but it really is just amazing.

That, and you get better sound quality than say the Razer's which are right around the same price.

thats what every one was raving about leading up to the release of the xfi apu... the surround processing is ridiculously powerful, using phase from the audio channels to play the sound the way your brain was designed to translate it. your head has two ears so it only need two speakers. in ear monitors make the phase changes even more accurate and the market for discreet multi driver headphones will continue to shrink.

this still wont answer your quest for cost affective 5.1 headphones but that is the reason it is getting harder.

well, i got an xi-fi and i could still tell a difference in 5.1 headphone and normal 2.0

5.1 just adds more richness into a surround game that i played.

maybe because the game renders sound differently when 2.0 where u won't notice as much special sounds in the back. hard to explain but some games just have more sounds going out.

Then you set windows and games to 5.1 sounds and leave the xfi console at headphones.
