I'm going to college in less than a month and don't want to take these huge speakers with me cause they take up too much space and I don't think I can fit them in the car with my computer and other junk.

So what I'm looking for is a solid heaphone/headset that is 5.1 that I can take with me instead. Price isn't doesn't matter *too* much, I won't be spending $200 on a paid of headphones, and the only other requirement is that they are 5.1 like I said already. Headphone and headsets are both acceptable.

Any recommendations?
 
i would reccomend NOT getting 5.1 headphones. i find that a good soundcard with solid HRTF and a nice set of stereo cans sounds infinately better than 5.1 headphones.

looks like the x-fi is going to have some aureal-type stuff going on with headphone support....if you wait a few weeks, we'll all know for sure. might wanna wait until then.
 
Bah, another 5.1 headphone thread? OP, please use the search feature, there are no good 5.1 headphones in your pricerange (or in any pricerange IMO :p ) I'd recommend: Audio Technica A500, Audio Technica A700, Sennheiser HD497, Sennheiser HD485, Sennheiser HD580 (even unamped), Beyerdynamic DT250 or Beyerdynamic DT770 (used). All of these have about the same or better sound positioning than any of the popular 5.1 cans, and 100X better sound quality.

If you HAVE to have 5.1 gimmicky cans, stay away from the Zalmans. I have a pair, they sound horrible!

Yeah, they're stuffed in a box somewhere around here.. I keep them around in case anyone ever asks about 5.1 cans. :p So far I have steered 2 people clear of them.

Hell, I have a better k/d ratio with my Alessandros!
 
ok I get it stear clear of the 5.1s

wanna link me, or point me to a good set of stereo head phones? like only two or three good choices, and not like 5 to 10

Headphone.com also has a really wide selection and is pretty honest about various headphones and amplifiers. They also have buying guides for different budgets and then just general information-type write-ups. Anyhow, besides the Headphonereviews.org I would look there as well.
