5.1 for docked Laptop?

What's the easiest way guys? I'm using a docked laptop so... nothing can run out the back since it's on a dock. Just got my 5500's and it's running on stereo 2x right now... I've been told the best solution is:

It works, I have not had issues with it. Can't really give you any kind of opinion on sound quality because I currently have some crappy 5$ speakers hooked up to it, I will be getting better speakers soon so I can compare it to my onboard Conexant HD chip.
