5.1+ 4.1 = 9.2?

currently have logitech z-640 (i think. the ~$80 5.1 logitech system) it sounds really good but not quite deafining. i think it would be cool to get the adapter to get 2 jack to plug into one. (you know what i mean right?) and get another system. like a 4.1 to boost the sound and bass. wont be 9.2, but together they can be really loud =) what do you think? whats a good 4.1 system for ~$100

No, it's not really 9.2

(unlike my 5.1+2.1 which was 7.1(2) since I had all speakers being driven seperately)


What you'd be doing is sending the same signal to the speakers.. doubled


You'd have 4.1 with extra sound, and your center channel would be "single driven"


I say buy the logitech x-530 (5.1) and double drive EVERY channel.

might as well just get some KLH 5.1 setup with a sub and a receiver.

overall sound quality may not be as good, knowing how KLH is now, but it will give you far more loudness potential and without the soundfield issues adding duplicate channels will add. Also upgradable later.

You can also land some nice 5.1 setups with receiver for about $200 that play loud as all hell if you wait for a sale.

yeah, you seriously need to get into home audio,even if it is just for your pc. i used to be like you, wanting to add more and more speakers for no real good reason. now i laugh at having been like that, and am very happy with getting into the home audio world. you can see my system in my sig

Problem is even if you get another pair of the speakers you have, you will only be adding 3db to the sound level. This wouldn't be that much when you consider it takes 10db before the sound level is perceived as being doubled.

why would it only add 3db? if i was to get a new speaker set. i would probably want to do the spliter thing anyway and do the double surround just for the hell of it. what kind of home audio are yal talking about? i live in an army baracks, so there are only some times i can blast. other times i make it quiet or use earphones... need to get some earphones too
so whats some good audio i can add in addition to what i got? love bass

If you really want nice, loud sound, ditch the computer speakers and get some real speakers and an amplifier. Like the kind of speakers one would have for a home stereo system. That's what bjorn was talking about. The tiny little drivers in computer speakers simply cannot compare to a nice 2-way or 3-way speaker. Get a couple nice speakers and an amplifier and they can easily produce more sound than 9 tiny drivers. I don't know if you could get all that for under $100, but I don't know if buying another set of $100 computer speakers will give you what you want.

When will people learn that its not quantity, its quality that counts. My Event TR-8 stereo studio monitors and even my old HK-595 2.1 DSP speakers will shit all over 9.2 channels of cheap garbage and not leave me wanting more speakers lol You'd be much better off with a good 5.1 setup, but to get 5 good monitors plus one sub you're looking at about $2000 US.
