4x5870 MADDNES !

Looks like for the most part that the 3x5870s is as good, if not better then 4x. Pity, I was hoping to see some sick numbers there. :(

Trifire looks like the sweet spot for the [H]. The scaling was a lot better than I had expected going past two cards.

wow...

I was deciding to Tri-fire it when 5870X2 comes out..

guess 3 isn't enough.....

i sure hope the drivers mature for 3+ cards in xfire. looks like cryengine2 doesn't scale well passed 2 cards, maybe cryengine3 will.

Couldn't the author use more distinct colors for the graph options?

4x and even 3x cards CPU limited with an i7 at 4.9Ghz... BWAHAHAHAHAHA :-D

Then again that is usually at lower resolutions.

yeah you'd literally need 2 x i7 920's OC'd to at least 4 ghz to overcome that bottleneck of 4 cards... even then it'd depend if the game could scale 8 cores or 16 threads. lol

Yes never tought about that lol

It does ati drivers atm ain't.

Looks like 3x Crossfire is better bang for buck than 4x Crossfire, and even then it's only a couple of FPS better than Dual Crossfire. Hmmm?? Is it because the drivers aren't mature yet or are we seeing some serious CPU bottleneck with > 2x 5870??

Just looking at the power consumption chart here:

Consum.jpg

So it would be possible for me to run Tri-Fire with a 750W power supply? Hmmmm. But their video cards are at stock? What happens if I want to OC all my GPU cores to 975/1300 and also add in my PhysX processor?
Also... would the video card(s) drain more power when it powers a 3x1 Eyefinity display??

Drivers, have seen great scaling with 3x GTX285 on similar setup, don't think that i7@4ghz is bottleneck for 2x5870 can't say for 3 tbh.

Man, looks like time to donate my GTX 280s to my children (Sims 3 will fly), and get a 5870, then when the 5870 comes out, i'll tri it!

there seems to be a driver issue for Warhead.

but for far cry and other games actually scale pretty well....

it scale better than what I thought it would be since the driver still in beta...

They should have done these tests with 3x 30 inchers. They could have at least tried to make it GPU limited.

I really don't understand why Ati didn't focus on Crysis scaling, that game is maybe one of the biggest GPU seller ever :D TBH i don't want huge scaling numbers 65% would be good enough for me atm with 2x5870 = 40% that sux.

Crossfire 4890s were bottlenecked on the Phenom II 940s. I think Crossfire 5870s is almost pushing the i7 to the limit.

Can't agree at 1920x1200 8xAA and 4GHZ i7 imho the cpu bottleneck is not the issue, trust me the drivers are.

Hmm not really.

Considering the game sucks for crossfire it's not bad. Around 31% increase for each gpu added. With improved drivers I'm sure the results will be way better. At least there is some improved even performance scaling increases happening as each GPU is added.

X58 looks like easy winner over P55.

Ye i wait for better drivers also but the scaling in the test was bad however lets hope Ati will fix the scaling the fps is good enough for me atm 2x 5870 1920x1200 4xAA 45-50 fps in Crysis in future would like to see at least 60 ;)

Geez 835W peak power for the 4x 5870! 4x 5870X2 could hit 1600W at that scaling! Weird that on the X58 scaling GPUs increased power from 370W -> 485W -> 657W -> 835W (that's a difference of 115W, 172W, and 178W respectively).

Wow. AFR with 8 GPUs would be nasty... and not likely supported.
