I was wondering if D5400XS motherboard would support 4x PCI-E cards.

I am going to use 3ware 9650SE 4 channel RAID controller card which needs electrical 4x PCIE slot. so the problem is, would the motherboard automatically adjust (decrease) number of lanes?????

help me out plz..
THX

edit: the motherboard has 4 PCI-E 16x slots, which are dynamically allocated from two 16x lanes.

From what I have been reading you should be able to put a PCI 4x card into a PCI 16x slot so long as that slot is not intended to be dedicated for a video card. If you want to get a motherboard that has a native PCI-E 4x slot these will be much easier to find on a server-class motherboard. I have the same raid card and I am also debating where to go from here without dropping a grand (or more) into a new system. :D

THX for the reply.
Well, I installed the 4x card and it works great. I have another 16x card and both are fine.
So I guess the mobo supports 4x.
