4pin -> pci-x power adapter

Better to go with the 2x molex to PCI-E, I'm not sure a single molex likes or can even tolerate 75W being drawn through it, depending on quality.

On second thought though, I'd have to question whether a PSU that doesn't come with a PCI-E connector to begin with can even reliably handle a card that needs one.

If you could, post specs of the system including the new card you want to put in, and as much detail of the PSU as you can, especially max amps on 12v rail.

i have the corsair 400w - but it only has 1pci-x connector.

my radeon 4870 requires two (2)

You might want a beefier PSU. You shouldn't reach 400W, but it's gonna be too close to the ceiling.

No. Molex connectors only have a single 4-pin +12V wire, and it isn't safe to run an entire PCI-E connector off of that single wire.

What are the rest of your specs?

phenom II x3 770
gigabyte 770-whatever mobo
4gb pc1600 ddr3
2hdds

thanks for the assurance :)

now i have to delay my new system a few days while i wait for this extra psu adapter
