4ms? Anyone try this one ?

The response times look awsome, wonder how it is on colors and how dark the blacks are...
 
its 4ms grey to grey. I think there was a warning that this is how they trick people to thinking that its faster then it really is

Yeah the ms is grey-grey as it is a Overdrive monitor and in this case it is tricky. The monitor only goes as low as 4 ms in a transition to grey tone 70.
Highest measurement is above 30 ms.
Grey-grey only says something about the rise time and therefore it can be misleading but it's the same with the ISO standard (black-white-black). It's just as misleading. Most 8 ms TN panels without Overdrive have ms over 25 in some transitions.

On MVA panels, however, it has proven itself to be a useful way to do it as the response time gets much more stabilized.
 
i read that even if a lcd was 0ms it would still not be instant like CRT because each pixel when shut off takes a time to go out completely !
 
that just leaves room for new technology :) ... Anyways by 2007 there will be flat crts which use a different type of light source then conventional crts which allows companies to make thinner monitors
 
isnt this the monitor where there were two things from the company, one said 4 ms the other 8 ms, or was that a samsung... But, yeah, that is an awesome looking monitor on paper...

Gray to Gray and ISO response time measurements are terrible because they let the manufacturers trick you into thinking their stuff is better than it is.

Normal LCD's, when changing a pixel from a dark color to a bright one, have to ramp up the brightness over time, and this is the response time as it is measured. With overdrive screens, the pixel brightness is launched higher than asked for and then allowed to come down to the appropriate level. The thing with both GtG and ISO measurements is that they measure the time it takes to get to the point where it's the desired color for the first time. With overdrive, it hits this desired color very fast (ie 4ms in this example) but then goes past it and takes awhile to come back down to it. The real time it takes to to actually settle on the color you want is much higher (20-30ms in the case of the VX924). You sacrifice accuracy to gain apparant speed. It does create an improvement, but then it also causes other problems. It can create a sparkling effect when dimmer colors move across the screen that is very ugly, especially when watching video.

GtG and ISO response times are red herrings, and since they make the hardware look really good, don't expect anyone to use a different, more realistic method. If you can get away with what essentially amounts to false advertising, why handicap yourself with the truth, right? If you really want to know how good a monitor's response time is, you'll have to read a review on it from a source that does extensive testing on this particular feature, like Tom's Hardware.
