I am about to build a new PC and I was wondering should I go with 2 or 4 GB of ram? I know I have less of an overclock with 4gb of ram than 2gb, but maybe it is worth it to get 4gb of ram and a 6700 and have a small OC than to have 2gb of ram and a better OC. I see games these days taking up a ton of memory. BF2 takes up a huge chunk, Vista will require a good size and will actually be able to handle more memory, and I am in the beta to another game that uses a ton of memory also. Also I am not really concerned about price difference between the 2GB and the 4GB. I am just looking for the best results. Personally I am leaning towards the 4GB. I just might go ahead and load Vista on this main machine so I can take advantage of the 4GB but was wondering your thoughts. I am planning on getting the follow gear if this helps.

Case : Lian Li G70
MB : Asus P5W DH
CPU : 6700
GPU : Waiting on the 8800GTX
PSU : PC&C 750EPS
RAM : Corsair or Gskill
HD : 150gb Raptor x 2

2GB is more then enough. If you don't care about the price difference, like you said, then go for it.

You can always add another 2GB of RAM later on, when it will benefit your PC more. Right now, you'll get a larger performance increase from overclocking than from having 4GB of RAM.

Definitely go for the 2GB.

Windows XP can't use more than 3.2GB, even with the /3gb switch on...

It's really not worth it IMO. The extra clockspeed you'll gain will be more useful than the extra RAM.

I haven't built my C2D yet because the RAM prices are all over the place and I'm waiting for the new Nvidia cards.

Those mushkin 1gb redline sticks are looking pretty sweet though.
