I bought one of those Creative MUVO's with the 4GB harddrive. I took it out & formatted it so I could play with it in my flash card readers. It works fine in both my flash card readers.

By they way if you dont have one you need to get a 6-in-1 card reader.. they're only like $6 on pricewatch now!

Unfortunately it doesnt fit in either one of my digital cameras.

my trusty old Kodak DC-215 Zoom - 1 megapixel
or the Canon PowerShot SD100 - 3 megapixel

Has anyone else done this and found which cameras the oversided (thicker) flash harddrives work in.

B/c I'm looking to get a 4+ megapixel camera that can take the harddrive.

Also anyone want to buy either of my old cameras PM me. I might put them in the FS forum.

I believe that what you need to look for is "Type II" CF support. That said, there are some caveats with this drive:

-Many cameras have a 2GB FS limit
-That microdrive may be modified such that it will not work in your camera (only supports IDE mode or something like that), but not sure what the final verdict was on the Muvos

The camera has to support FAT32 filesystem, or you can't use it. I've not heard of anyone having any sucess with the drive from the Ipod. People with Canon DSLRs seem to have no real issues with the Muvo's drive.

well, for one your sd100 (according to the canon page) uses SD memory, not compact flash.

the hard drive is type 2 compact flash (thicker) and needs a camera that supports fat32 filesystems (i think only dslr's do at this point).

The MuVO's drive is a fully functional CF Type II drive. If will only work in equipment that supports CF Type II, and FAT32 Formatting.

Like others have stated, only DSLRs support it at this point, I think becuase 2GB is probably more than the avg. consumer is going to stuff into their P&S camera. :p

Sorry, my 3 meg is at home.. I didnt remember which exact model # it was so I just search for 3 megapixel canon and that looked just like it. I didnt think the # looked correct. I thought it was like a S300, but that only says 2.1 megapixel on the pictures. It might be the S400. Anyway, it only takes type I flash now that I know thats the difference between type I & type II.

Type II is thicker. right? So I just need to look for a camera that supports Type II.

I formatted it Fat32 yesterday, so I know it supports that. There's also IDE to flash adapters that you could use with it for like an ultra compact computer.

Via M10000 + 4Gb harddrive = super mini PC.

Yes, and also ADFS, so a 1GB can store 1.4GBs, and 4GB stores 5.6GBs using ADFS.

Shows how much data FAT32 wastes.

Do you have a link? I'd like to read more. :)
