4D Medical Images

The problem with using this a more casual environment is cost and space. Most people wouldn't want to dedicate that amount of space to playing a video game. The general trend is smaller is better. When the same result can be achieved using a relatively small packages that is also relatively cheap, then you will start to see wider adoption.

wtf?! Is that a real holigram?
I didnt think we had that tech yet.

No, it's multiple projectors projecting onto each surface of a pseudo cube. Stereoscopic glasses are worn to give the effect of 3d to the wearer.

What the hell is 4D! what they goping to call it when they do get holographic images, 5D or maybe 6D by then. Get real people its all Simulted 3D its not something that defies the laws of known physics therefor it deserves a new demension of its own. Whats the supposed name of this 4th demension. Some argue the 4th deminsion is time, but we already had that a long time ago.........I could go on, but you all get my point!

i don't get your point. all they're saying is that they've added time to their simulation hence the 4D. it would be just insane to think they'd start caling something 5D or 6D later. wouldn't make sense. weather time is the 4th dimension or not is another debate. it has yet to be proved or disproved as far as i know.

this isn't a case of model numbers and if we all had holographic projectors i would find it hard to believe that everyone would call it 4D as everyone knows thats nonsense.

The 4th D in many fields is time.
In surveying (company I work for & our competitors) do surveys & have "4D" surveys. All it is, is data compared over timed & the changes that time (earth) has made.

If we create holograms we are just now creating true "3D" images. Looking at a computer monitor is still a 2D image just projected as best it can be in a 3D manner.

Yeah right there in the ariticle they say the fouth dimention is time. Also give the laws of physics the fourth dimention is time. Its easy to work out.

An object is anyting that has mass and takes up space, space can be defined in terms of x, y, and z.

Two objects can not occupie the same space and the same time.

So an objects description can include x, y, z, and t

I like the idea behind this, although it seems like it would be more for research now, the idea alone of composit images from multiple data sources is an excellent approach for diagnosises.

I also disagree with the use of the "4D" nomenclature. Whether or not time is a dimension is debatable. It is certainly not the fourth.

Just because people have trouble conceptualizing a four-space, does not make it in any way less real- information is readily available regarding Klein's Bottles, projective planes, hypercubes, et al.

so why don't people use the term 4D more often then? a 3D animation of anykind is 4D? but of course it's always displayed in 2D, even if you have stereo displays it's still 2D for each eye...

as far as I'm concerned 3D isn't possible yet, it's all 2.5D if anything

though it all depends on how you "look" at it (pun intended)

to actually not add anything of real value to this conversation....i live in red deer....haha thats awesome :D

My point is why call it 4D there not adding any more "Demension" to it than we have had for the last 20+ years. There calling this 4d trying ot make it sound more advanced but only the ignorant are impressed about it, the more intleeigent people just think it is BS calling this 4D! Its nothing new, theres been things like this for a long time. theres nothing NEW!

I think you are missing your own point.
Exactly, there have been things like this for years, and they have been referring to time as a fourth dimension for years also. Now whether it comes a law/rule/etc. is up to some other people, but for everyday use (in many, many, many fields) currently saying 4D is referred to as time. If that displeases you then sorry, but it has been going on for some time now in many industries.

I thought light was the 4th dimension because it's shadow is the previous dimension before it.

all they're really trying to say is that they've been able to add time to what looks like a holographic medical simulation for the first time. thats whats new. although i don't think calling it 4D is really that dumb as it can be argued that time is the fourth (and what was added) but lets not get into that argument. however, i do think its a bit cocky. a bit too bold for lack of better word. its an interesting technology they're developing - although maybe not new, but its an interesting way of using current tech.

Ludic: I thought light was the 4th dimension because it's shadow is the previous dimension before it.

WTF is all i have to say to that....who told you that nonsense?? i've heard the theory about light being a vibration from a higher dimension, but this??

Funny, my doctor mentioned this a few weeks ago, using this in place of ultrasounds. And my wife just told me they have been doing this in Hong Kong for a while now in place of ultrasounds.

Watch the movie "Hypercube" for a cool horror kind of movie involving the 4th dimension, it is actually pretty neat, makes you think.
