$499 PS3 at target stores

These price drops are coming just around E3...Hmmmm:p I was thinking holidays but maybe not!

No biggie as certain retailers are just jumping on the new price early. $399 would be nice....sigh, another year perhaps.

If indeed these are official price drops that are here to stay, I hope to hell it goads MS into a price war with them, hehe. The Elite doesn't seem as good of a deal now at $479 :p

I like where your head is:p Price wars rule!!

Agreed. Price drop on the 360 + the new warranty = happy dj_2004. :D

hmm....
If $499 PS3
then...
$399 Elite
$299 Premium
kill the core...
$249 Wii

At least that would be natural progression.
I dont think Microsoft is smart enough to put the Elite at $399, at least not yet anyway.

I dont see a $499 PS3 next to a $479 Elite working very long.

Not to mention Microsoft's decision to not make a built-in HD-DVD drive with the Elite, so when Blu-Ray wins, they'll be able to make an Blu-Ray add-on.

My thought on that is that MS didn't build in HD-DVD becuase they don't have faith in *either* format. They're backing Digital Distribution, and given the way that marketplace is taking off, and the way it did with music (remember the DVD audio "format war"? Both formats were kicked soundly in the ass by MP3), and really, they might have been smarter to do just that.

It appears sony is still adament no price drop is coming so this must be a store decision

You know, this may say a lot more than taken it face value. IF the price drop is not official and major retails like Circuit City and Target are cutting $100 it means they are trying to get rid of inventory. That means they won't be buying anymore anytime soon. Sony is in a serious pickle if they can't even get retailers to carry their product.

Sony is lying. You'll hear about this within the next week, I'm 98.2% sure.

I am inclined to agree. Too many rumors of price drops in the last month to not come from the source.

Just checked my Sunday ads - PS3 is still at $599. I'm in Atlanta which would likely be considered a major market BTW.

Simple: Sony is lying. Some retailers are jumping on the coming drop early.

I can't believe there are people who DON'T believe Sony is lying. Come on folks, its Sony, hello?

Exactly, it's Sony, their marketing is used to shooting themselves in the foot over such things. I dunno what to believe anymore :D

Even if the PS3 went to the same price as the 360, to me, it still isnt worth it. It just doesn't have the games, and I don't care about BR or HDDVD.

The PS3 will have to get around $300 before I consider it. It just doesn't have the exclusives, and by the time it drops to $300, Walmart will have players that play both formats for $100.

Sorry Sony, you came out late, you overpriced, you didn't penetrate the market, and lost your exclusives. Too bad to because I like the way the PS3 looks better than my 360, and I heard its a solid machine.
