Hey, so I haven't posted much around here but I just ended up getting 420$ cash for my 2600k and Asus P8P67 WS motherboard. I had no intentions of selling it/ upgrading but that was a smoking deal from what I could tell.

I just started getting into BF4 and still have two SLI 580 3GB's powering my dell u3011.

Im wondering what my best bet is right now. I was planing on waiting for Haswell-E, but this really threw a bone into the mix.

My thoughts were looking at a 4930k and a x79 motherboard.- Is this a good thought?

Im wondering if I should hold out a week for the Rampage IV black edition Motherboard or pull the trigger on the Sabertooth x79 board.

Let me know what you think.

If this isnt in the right section, please feel free to move it.

Thanks, Taylor

Unless you really need the features of a high end overclocking board, I would just look at getting one of the $200-250 x79 boards. The overclock you will get is 99% dependent on your CPU.

Also, without official benchmarks on BF4, it's hard to say anything about what it requires.

I recommend the MSI X79A-GD45 Plus, very good affordable 8-DIMM X79 board. I currently have a RIVE but the MSI board clocked the same CPU to 4.7ghz with less voltage than the Asus takes.

Bought the MSI X79A, Bios needed to be flashed. Ended up getting a Asus P9X79 instead to get me running for the weekend

Loving it so far. FIngers crossed.

Welcome to the X79 club

Don't really know why, but I've been on it for 2 years and just love it.

For 4930k? The MSI comes with a 3-position BIOS switch with one for IB-E preloaded, just FYI. All the way to the right on the switch at the bottom right corner of the board IIRC.

Mine only had a two way switch with A/B.

I confirmed it needed a sandy bridge processor to be flashed or a SFI tool

This! :)

Just took my first steps into X79 and the Enthusiast side of things this past September and its a very nice feeling. You will not be disappointed.

I would have said wait for Haswell-E, but I wouldn't blame a single person for jumping the gun.

Really didnt want to get rid of the 2600k, but with the deal I got, im happy to be on Ivy bridge till then. Better re-sale if anything.

Where did you hear Haswell-E was going to be for X79?

Or, were you just saying in general wait for it and the new mobos, sata, etc ??

Was your board blue or gray? The blue one is not the Plus model and doesn't come with that extra BIOS.
