what is the recomended max safe v-core and load temps for a 4930K on high end air cooling ?

i am getting conflicting results from what i can find on google, and i plan on keeping this CPU for a long time, so lifetime is important to me.

also what is the average overclock people are getting ?

Greetings

I suggest you read this. First go to page 61, table 7-9 shows the processor VID range of 0.6v to 1.35v as these are the functional limits. On the previous page 60 then table 7-8 shows the absolute limits of -0.3v to 1.4v.

"Table 7-8 specifies absolute maximum and minimum ratings. At conditions outside functional operation condition limits, but within absolute maximum and minimum ratings, neither functionality nor long-term reliability can be expected. If a device is returned to conditions within functional operation limits after having been subjected to conditions outside these limits (but within the absolute maximum and minimum ratings) the device may be functional, but with its lifetime degraded depending on exposure to conditions exceeding the functional operation condition limits."

Essentially it is saying that any operation of the CPU above the functional limit of 1.35v risks damaging it, in addition reverting later to safe voltages does not mean that it will resume working properly either. I'd recommend staying well clear of 1.35v.

I suggest in future you disregard anybody else's advice regarding CPU voltages and always refer to Intel's documentation as after all they are the manufacturer of the product concerned.

I presume this applies to the die shrunk IB-E chips as well as the original SB-E ones as I can't find any more recent information so I gather it still applies to both. If you buy any more cpu's in future always locate and read similar documentation to this and you can't really go wrong.

Cheers

^ I'd think that the die shrunk chips may be slightly less tolerant of higher voltage.

Then again, I don't have the documentation to back it up so I guess anyone can correct me if I'm wrong.
