So I flashed the bios and got everything installed but the diag cpu light lights up on power up. The bios flash seemed to work as it was supposed to. The fans come on but nothing else seems to do much. I'm not really sure what to do.... Is it a bad cpu or am I just not doing something correctly?

Bought the mobo and cpu from newegg. I seriously doubt the cpu was the problem but I dont have the luxury of another 2011 to test it. I spent several hours with 3 differnt Asus support reps. 2 told me the cpu was bad and the other concluded the mobo was ferked since it wouldnt show error codes nor beep. Newegg agreed to RMA both so hopefully the replacements work without issue.

Having he same issue with my 4930k from newegg....

This is on a P9X79 Pro from Amazon. I'm beyond pissed. Tempted to try a X79 Sabertooth from Frys to verify its not he board, but its sounding like Intel is pushing bad shit to the market.

Purchased a 4930k from Newegg myself on the day of release, installed with no issues.

So what is yours doing? I would assume the pro has the exact same cpu led light as well as the code led. If so, did yours show an error code or have an error beep code? Mine did none of this hence the support tech concluding the board was screwed. Also, did you use the usb flashback to flash to 4302? The flashback seemed to function as expected on my board but I wonder if the mobo and cpu were fine but the bios was the issue.

Exactly to the t. Flashback worked as advertised, but I got nothing but the CPU led and 00

Trying a sabertooth to see if I get same error, will rma the CPU if so.

I am a little concerned that maybe flashback isn't working.

same issue. bad cpu, don't know how it could be anything else. RMA w/ newegg.

hmm that is quite interesting. I only saw the 00 code upon clearing cmos but it wouldnt even do that on subsequent power ups. Fortunately I shipped both back to newegg yesterday.

Success! Situation just didn't add up, my gut told me the USB bios flashback wasn't taking. Sure enough, I tried with a different USB stick for kicks, it behaved differently...led blinked progressively faster, then went off. Prior, it would just stop blinking and stay on.

New bios actually flashed, now I'm in six-core heaven. Oc'd to 4.5 stable.

Sorry for jacking your thread!

Well that is good to know! You didn't jack my thread as it was exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for, outside of a direct fix. Mine seemed to flash correctly with the light flashing at first then faster upon completion. I suspected all along the bios had everything to do with it but no way to confirm it (Asus support was little help). Thanks to you, I now have at least that knowledge that my thumb drive might have been the issue. Can you tell me exactly your steps in flashing the bios? I see that my board version 1.03 you apparently need to flash using the P9X79 WS CAP Converter then use the rename utility. Once that is done, flash with the latest 4306 for my board.

I got the 4930k with a Gene IV and I'm facing a very similar issue, the BIOS won't flash to any CAP version using the USB flashback method. I flash it to 1404 (ROM), I also flash the ROM-to-CAP converter successfully, but then anything newer (with CAP) doesn't flash. I also get the 00 code.

You have to flash it to 2002, then you can use whatever CAP thereafter.

Well I RMAed both last Friday and Newegg issued a refund. I kindda lucked out because they don't normally issue refunds but direct replacements. They were temportarily backordered apparently. Instead of going with the p9x79 WS again, I decided to go x79 deluxe instead. I don't have to flash that bios:D I got them this morning and waiting to get home to plop em in my case.
