Hey i was looking all over google and the internet and the only information i could find is that this card will be made but there's no date when...

I just built a new rig and it's just standing there and waiting for graphics card and here i am still using my old system...

Will this card be released anytime soon? should i keep on waiting ? or go and buy something that's available ?

Rig Specs:

Asus P6T6WS Revolution
Intel Core i7 965 EE
Adaptec 3405 SAS Pcie SAS controller
6 x 2GB OCZ Flex Ex
2 x Seagate 15k SAS 74gb hdd
2 x Fujitsu 15k SAS 140GB hdd
2 x Seagate 7200rmp SATA 1.5TB hdd
1 x LG Blu Ray / HD DVD RW Sata Drive
Thermaltake Toughpower 1500W (220V)
Thermaltake Kandalf LCS (Liquid cooled case, used to cool both the CPU and Memory)
Dell 30" 3007 WFP monitor

And 1 very old graphics card used to power up and setup the system...

I can't go with 3 way SLI bcz i have a SAS controller installed and using 1 of the PCie interfaces and so there's no place for 3 way sli.

Either i go with 2 x 295 GTX, 2 x 4870x2 or 2 x 4890 x2...

So the question is, wait ? or not?

Donno much about Dx11, but i don't think it would really matter because, Windows 7 will be officially released end of this year... and until the hardware comes out and then until the games that will support dx11 will come it will be another year... so i don't think its really worth the wait for dx11.

just like it was with DX10 cards the point in getting one was NOT just because DX10. they were a more powerful new gen of cards that benefited DX9 and XP users too. even if you never buy a DX11 game or use 7 the new cards will be better. I will probably have to repeat that a million times just like when DX10 cards came out.

I Learned my lesson with dx10. Never again will I buy into the hype. MS got me once but they won't get me twice. Almost 3 years later and still game devs prefer DX9. What a joke.

well i'm not gona wait for dx11 cards that's for sure... but will wait for the 4890x2 if it's coming out sometime this or next month... but can't find any new news regarding this... ! :(

wow you just posted that immediately after I said this? please let me know what 7 series card can tear through current games even in DX9.

You should see something from ATI camp or ATI oem partners whenever GTX 295 single pcb version is finally released.

rph, i'm not gonna lie to you, i looked at your rig and almost crapped my pants.

Just get a 4870x2 and call it a day. Even if a 4890x2 does come out, I doubt it will be in the next month or two. Or if money isn't a option, you can go green and get the 295, but it's not worth the $$$

tbh with how fast tech changes I would never spend those kind of bucks for computer stuff. no matter how much money I have I still like getting the most bang for buck. in 2 years a $5000 pc is just as outdated and irrelevant as a $1000 pc. I couldnt stand the thought that someone with a $100 card in 2009 will equal or beat a $500 card from just 1-2 years earlier. IMO its just too much money down the drain in a very short period time.

yeah I think I would just get a 4870x2 then at the end of the year grab a 5870x2 or whatever is the fastest for the money in that range.

+1 that is very well said, like this guy i know built a rig 4 years ago for 4k and he regrets it so bad now, he actually saved up for that rig, and now he regrets it big time, because my 1300 dollar i7 rig beats his rig 10 times, and I dont spend much so when I upgrade I just sell my core components and buy the new cpu and the new graphic card. those two things I usually upgrade, given the socket on the board remains the same

buy 2 of the 4890s for CF for 380 or less shipped off of ewiz and call it a day/

totally agree. I mean if the value stayed the same then it may be worth splurging but computer hardware thats not the case.

OP - Just buy two 4890s or two GTX285s and call it a day. Or a 4870 X2 if you wanna save some but I'm guessing money isnt an issue. SLI/Xfire Dual GPU cards scale like crap after 2GPUs so you're just wasting money there.

Well to answer all the comments regarding paying this much on my rig.

It's been a really really long time that i do my own rigs and whenever i do one i don't do it to use it 1 year... yeah sure after 1 year there'll be new technology coming. BUT if you take for example the core i7 965 it's been released since a couple of months now... how long until something really better will come out ? that is like @ least 50% faster ? and even then when this something comes out i could overclock the rig... and have the same level of performace...

Same for graphics cards... take the 8800GTX sure the new graphics cards are way faster... but when you are saying that a vga is giving 100FPS or 200FPS, in real life and in gaming it's the same as long as you're above 50 it's all the same...

So doing a rig like that will last 3 years minimum... and worste case, in that time i could probably only swap graphics cards ? and a second one? add a third one? and in 3 years time these graphics cards will cost like 50$ and will simply double my performace.

The last rig i had and that i still have it's now being converted to an HTPC, it was an AMD Ahtlon X2 4200 (2.0 Ghz) i've used it since this cpu was released with 2 x 7800GTX and 4gb of ram and an ASUS A8N32-SLI and i was still using with all of the recent games i overclocked the cpu to 2.8ghz and was still able to play most of the recent games until i got the Dell 30" monitor but before that on a 19" Sony Lcd it was running perfectly for more then 4 years...

So i don't agree with what you are saying at all.

nice rig. but to hones I would do one of the following as most anything past 2gpu is disappointing.

go GTX285 sli if money is no issue.

get a couple of water cooled 4890 and oc the hell out of them.

my third option would be to get a pair of 4870X2 and go quadfire. the GTX295 is kind of a junk card right now. Nvidia is suppose to be coming out with a single PCB version that might be better

Im hearing it will still make it. The 5 series isn't "right around the corner" according to my sources. It isn't too far out but there is enough of a gap to squeeze a new high end in.

Meh, I just wish I had the money right now. Probably should stop visiting PC hardware sites at some point, take a break from constantly spending money on pc tech crack.
