I just got a free ATI 4890 Video card and I was wondering how it will do against my 4830 crossfire setup?

The 4830's would likely have an edge in any game that had good crossfire support, but overall the 4890 might be the better way to go. Another thing to consider is if the 4830's are 512mb parts and the 4890 is a 1gb part, that would come into play as well.

Sell the 4830's and get a 2nd 4890.

wow :p you're a crook!

but even a single 4890 should do you good @ that rez :)

I'd say sell the cards, pick up a pair of SSDs!

Holy cow! Who did you sell those videocards to? I might be willing to sell my 4850 to the same person. $200 perhaps? just kidding :p

id take a good bet it was either to a friend or on fleabay.. theres plenty of uneducated people on fleabay willing to over pay on stuff.. like my back up DFI lanparty UT NF3 250Gb 2 people got into a bidding war on it in the last 4 hours before it ended and i sold it for 235 dollars which i had only payed 35 for it on fleabay 6 months before that..

4890 XFX should be in today. Hopefully I can run ghostbusters without stuttering now.

Never played crysis. I only play single player games.

Does anything run crysis well?

Does not compute. Crysis is a single player game with a multiplayer component (that I've never touched). I had never played it due to not having a rig to run it and I must say it's one of the better shooters I've played in the last while. The pacing at the start is a little slow, but from the tank level on the game feels like it's always at 11, it was quite awesome.

The only thing that runs Crysis 'well' at 1920x1080/Enthusiast is a SLI/CF setup, and even then frames dip to 40's. On a single card solution like a 4890 you want to find the sweet spot between High/Very High settings for different options and resolution. It looks amazing regardless though. I can only tell the difference between High and Very High in screenshots even though there is a noticeable difference. The game looks so good you don't even notice without the comparison.

If you like FPS games I'd definitely recommend playing through Crysis. I just got started on Warhead and it already seems equally awesome (only a few hrs in), but with more asplosions.

Not ebay or a friend. I have my ways.

Haha, its funny. The day I get the 4890 in cat 9.7s are out.

You mentioning that prompted me to go and download the new drivers. I install CCC & drivers and it doesn't ask to reboot which is nice. I start up WMP to watch a video file and BAM! BSOD.

Bad sign...

EDIT: K just tried it again and it works fine... I'll chalk that up to me not resetting after the install, woops!
