Hi guys, I know I dont post much but I've been a lurker for years now.

Anywho, I'm looking to upgrade my 4890gpu. I have not been keeping up with current hardware for a while now. so please excuse my ignorance.

I have a budget of around $200, I dont mind spending more if it will net me alot more for my money.

I 'm getting around 25-30 fps in SWTOR and I want more. My CPU is only running at 18-20 percent while playing the game so Im thinking my gpu is holding me back.

Can you please reccomend me a new gpu?

7xxx series is starting to come out in January. Id wait till it's out, if nothing is good in your price range out of the new cards, Im sure you could pick up some of the 6xxx series or an nvidia card cheaper than now.
 
OK guy I've waited till now, What's the new hotness for around $200, willing to go higher if its really worth it.

Im looking to run diablo 3 very well, I only run at 1920x1200 single for gaming with a secondary for other stuff.

My ol' 4890 is LOUD it always has been, i dont care about power consumption so much. I'd like a fairly quiet card that has decent specs for $200-275 ish.

I can spend more if the gpu to $ ratio is worth it. But I'd rather not

Wait another week or two, AMD is about to launch their HD7850 and HD7870 cards and it looks like they will be in your price range, at least the HD7850.
Judging by the other HD7000 cards released these cards most likely would give you the best bang for the buck.
Next week there is also one of the worlds largest hardware shows going on in Germany, expect a lot of info and news comming from there.
We are all waiting to hear about Nvidias new generation and what they have to offer and it's very possible we will know quite a bit more end of next week.

If you absolutely must have a card now I would recommend a HD6950 2gb ram, you should be able to find it for something like $230-250, that is if you can find it in stock anywhere, the card is end-of-life so probably very hard to find. Next card lower is the HD6870, can be found for $160-180 but it is a fair bit slower than HD6950. From Nvidia side there is the GTX560 Ti for $230 and up. Be sure to check some reviews on this card though as they are sold with very different clock speeds so there's a fair bit of difference in performans between different 560 Ti cards.

The way AMD has been doing their pricing lately makes me think you would be better off just getting the 6870 right now to get the best bang for the buck.
 
Looks good to me. You might want to consider spending a little bit more for a 7950.

yeah go for the MSI HD 7950 OC. USD 320 after rebates. The best deal in the market right now for high end cards.
 
Another way is pick up used 6950 or 6970 from people that has upgraded to 7970 or 670 etc. They can be had for quite a good deal. But the 7950 at 300 or so are pretty awesome.. And less power usage too.
