well i switched from nvidia..somehting i never thought id do just because of how much i liked nvidia..andi got the 4890 1gb from gigabyte.. man this thing rocks. i can max out all my settings on gta4 and have it at 1280x1024 res @75 hz and it runs just fine. i benchmarked out of curiosity and averaged out at 37fps. not too bad for that game. however that drunk cam ruins the game..

also another reason i like this card so much is the fact that it runs fine on a 500w psu... not too many nvidia cards can do that anymore..maybe the 9800 gtx but anything above it wants more power or is very smart to have it in case.

that statement is completely wrong and shows a lack of knowledge and experience with power supplies and how much power a system actually uses

Congrats on the new card.....enjoy it..
Just curious..which card did you switch from?

1280x1024? What are your maxed out settings specifically?

+1

I ran my 8800GTX's in sli with an Antec NeoHE 550...and I have my 9800GTX in an Antec Super Lanboy.

For the good of civilized society, your driver's license and voter registration should be revoked and a mandatory vasectomy must be scheduled immediately.

there are people on here running triple SLi gtx 280s from a 750 watt PSU

granted I would never do that and it taxes the power supply.. but with a good PSU, it is possible.

anyways... I think the OP got too good of a video card for his respective resolution and now the GPU is somewhat wasted. I think he needs to go grab himself a bigger monitor with his GPU purchase and stretch that things legs

Hey, lets try not to be douchbags and ruin the guys thread shall we? :)

Grats on the HD 4890 purchase, it should hold you well into the 1680x1050 res and higher on max settings in the latest games, maybe excluding 16X AA :)

This thread is funny in so many ways.

Maxed out at 1280x1024 isn't very impressive nor does it take a 4890 to accomplish. And the power comment is also incorrect, that's all i'll say about that since other members have already pointed out the fallacy.

yeah no kidding. at 1280x1024 a gtx260 would have given him the same performance especially with his cpu at just 2.8. IMO at that res nothing more than 4850 or gts250 is needed especially if your cpu isnt well over 3.0 ghz.

Congrats on your purchase. Sorry your thread got derailed by all the [H]-n-rage.

I understand your point of the 500W powersupply. Going by the specifications listed on the manufacturers box, all the 275 GTXs require a minimum of a 575 PS or more. I have a 550 PS. Only the EVGA says it requires a 550W and that is the vanilla version.

The 4890's so far have required a 500W power supply and lower AMP on the 12 rail. I'm not going to get into 260GTX's from XFX that require 575 or more. But I definitely see your point, and the peace of mind knowing the manufacturer guarantees it.

This n-rage though isn't as silly as the one under the "NVidia post 200M."

got something to disagree with then disagree all you want but dont get out of hand.. its really not necessary for online forums..youre not scaring anyone lol
(fyi im not trying to scare you either...so for anyone reading this..dont bother making more smartass remarks)

What point were you making again?

originally? that im very happy with the 4890 and its nice being able to run it on a 500w since from what ive read from other reviews as well as manufacturers sites you need more than 500w to get an equal performing gpu from nvidia?
regardless of the res that i run i was just simply saying its a huge ass improvement from the 7600gtoc i had before..

also ive got a 26" bravia ive used with it and it runs sweet on that too...for those of you who wanted me to run on a larger display. :p

It's either his complaint about the drunk cam on his pirated copy or something about eating poo.

lol you say that like youve paid for every piece of software on your computer. highly doubt that considering youre still making immature remarks over forums

your 26 inch bravia @ 1280x720 or 1366x768(or 720p) actually uses less pixels than your 1280x1024 monitor.. which shows your lack of knowledge in the area, again

we meant a larger monitor that uses more pixels (such as a 24 inch monitor @1920x1200) which would use your video card to its potential

honestly man.. if you can (I understand if you can't in these economic times).. try to find yourself larger monitor.. your rig can def. handle the load.. and you will be amazed with your working/gaming experience.

not to mention that is a beast of a card which will really shine through with some more pixels on your screen

I have a drawer full of games from the last few years. Most were bought retail and some where bought used. I can post this if you need me to make you feel better about your pirate copy of GTA IV.

i definitely plan on it in a month or two. the bravia i used as my tv obviously..i just hooked it up to mess around with it also i like the dual monitor. but yeah..to answer that ive been planning on that for a little while just need the $$

check out the hotdeals section.. there are always good deals in there on monitors..
the costco 28inch hannsG monitor looks pretty good for 300 bones

Thats quite the upgrade.....that 4890 should have you giggling with joy...:)

yeah it is..and i am lol it runs kinda warm..about 60c average..but that seems to be the norm for this card so im not worried.

Hey now I did not say anything other than those two comments I quoted was the funniest thing I have ever heard here at the [H]. :D

LOL @ 4890 for 1280x.... and bigger LOL for the PSU comment, my entire system in my sig barely pulls 500 watts

I love my LG Flatron L227WTG. Awesome monitor and I highly recommend one to the OP.
