4870x2 unusual problem plz help

Problem: i plug in my video card into the pcie slot and take the cords from my antec 650 and plug them into it. My computer refuse to start up. i push the start button and nothing happens?! i remove the 8 pin to see if it will start even somewhat and it does, but the screen is still blank due to the lack of power. I hear one long beep and three short beeps which means its a video card problem.

I think to myself okay ill just use more power. I grab a 700 watt power supply and plug everything in this time, even with the 8 pin in the computer turns on but still has the same problem of giving me the 1 long beep and three short?! so i try the other pcie slot still the same thing.

Now im pissed. I confirmed my motherboard works with it, my psu should in theory work with it, is my card messed up.

problems i see
1) 8 pin connector on the antec 650 is dead
2) 8 pin on the card is dead
3) maybe i do need more power

if anyone out there can help me out please i think i have a gray hair now

Is the 8pin on you PSU's made for the MOBO or SPECIFICALLY for the VGA....You arnt suppose to use the 8pin that is for the MOBO on a Vicard...

If this is the case you will need a (2x3)6pin to (2x4)8pin adapter for one of your 2x3(6pin)connectors for it to work..

Most PSU's with asingle 2x4(8pin) is made for the MOBO 4pin or 8pin conection and NOT the Videocard..

Not saying this is wha tyou did but .... Im taking a wild guess"" if they only gave you the correct 6pin to 8pin adatper instead of 2 6pin PCI-E's" would of saved me a headache syndrom....

I hope thats all your problem is and wish you do not nedd a RMA...

Verify your connectors and what the PSU's says the 8pin is used for.Usually the 8pin is just for Mobo supply volts instead of a 4pin.

..unless the PSU states the 8pin is for VGA you will most likely need an adapter..
 
yeah you were right man the 8 pin was meant for the mother board im buying a connector for my power supply to turn one of the six pin pcie connectors into a 8 pin. no idea how that works
whats the difference between 4+4 cpu 6+2 cpu and 2x4 pci e
