4870X2 Running Slow?

Hey guys, i've had my X2 for a while but lately i've become more curious about it, especially after watching a tiger direct blog stating that his X2 runs 1920x1200 on high with 55 avg fps,
My crysis, also running 1920x1200 jumps between 15-35 fps on high with no AA/AF
my specs
GA-EP45 motherboard
Powercolor 4870X2
E8400 @ stock
4 gig - OCZ DDR2 800mhz
Seagate 500gig
Running this off a corsair HX-620w

Some people have said it may be the PSU since they don't work as well when they are running near full.. but i made sure i got a quality one
Or is the E8400 simply bottlenecking the card? (ive had real bad luck OC'ing with this particular CPU, even 3.4ghz wasnt stable on stock cooling)

Well, that guy is speaking out of his ass.

Even only on high, he is not running an average of 55 even at 10 x 12. Your fps is fine although 15 may be slightly low but obviously it depends on what happens on screen.

The only real comparison would be if he was using the inbuilt benchmarking tool because unless you know his exact route it is impossible to compare.

Also, this sounds as good as a newegg review looking at the source.

But the i tested it just before and it will spike between 15-30 even when just walking around with no action, looking down the gun sight etc always causes a jump in the FPS
 
I'm pretty sure that E8400 @ stock is a huge bottleneck for an X2 especially in a CPU sensitive game like Crysis.
 
I have an E8400 and 2 4850s in crossfire. I think my opinion on Crysis and it's sensitivity to CPU clock is valid.

Anyways.. i think i'll invest in a decent CPU cooler and give the OC'ing another chance >.<
I thought crysis was GPU intense not CPU intense aswell

Crysis kicks the crap out of all hardware.

However, you do not need crazy cpu speed to get playable fps, whilst it may increase in fps with clock speed increase a 3ghz dual core is by no way holding you back. Try and overclock it and see how it goes but really your fps is fine for crysis.

What temps were you hitting anyway?
 
I went back and looked at my benchmarks from Crysis and I admit the biggest change when I OC'd the CPU to 4.0 Ghz was in the minimum FPS. Still, with tweaking Crysis should be able to run 'high" @ 55 fps @ 19x12 on the 4870x2.
 
Also, if you're only running it on high, try running in DX9. There is no visual difference on high between 9 and 10, and 10 just drops your fps for no reason.

I'm able to get about 30 fps on the Gamer setting in Warhead on a single 3870x2.
 
This again? Crysis is crap, it runs poorly. It isn't your system, it is the GAME.

COD4/5 look beautiful, they run easily 50x better. That is how a game should be.
