Pretty impressive, looks like nvidia is going to be hurting even more. 2 x 1GB of GDDR5. This is the card everyone has been waiting for. :)

4870x2 seems to be everything many people were waiting for price and performance-wise. But, knowing Nvidia i think they'll try to come back with their guns blazing, but they better hurry up, ATI's market share is getting bigger every day with 4800 series.

only thing that sucks about "previews" is you can't buy one today!!!!!!!!!

Finally a good card that is worth getting. Seriously, I thought NVIDIA would release a monster card, and they proved me wrong. ATI is back with a killer card this card. They deserve the performance crown this time.

But of course, I'm sure NVIDIA won't let this pass. Something tells me they are brewing up something. Competition is always good.

Nvidia will have something to answer because they are Nvidia! /sarcasm
In for 1.

Think it needs a pci-e 2.0 slot to get full use,?since it is a 2 in 1 card solution? or will the original pci-e be ok. Wish he ran that test.

Indeed, these cards look very promising for their performance. I'm sure many of us will be happy with this card's performance when they're released. :)

$499 ? $549 ?
Both prices have been mentioned. I am hoping for $499
Aug 1 release date. OR sooner. I want it now!!!!

ANYONE notice the sticker on the card.
5/22/08

QUIT dragging your feet ATI and get this out. DAMN!!!

Impressive, but why didnt they benchmark World in Conflict? lame. Im so sick of seeing Crysis benchamrks , its a broken game anyways, imo a badly coded game has no relevance when its comes to benchmarking performance. Now If that would have gotten a advance demo of Far Cry 2 , that would have been something to shake a stick at :p

They did check the 3rd link, driverheaven. The r700 performs really good in WIC.

Let me start this by saying i plan on getting this card. that being said, am i the only one worried about amd going belly up and getting no more driver updates?

Thanks for pointing that out, I must have missed it =/.

WOW 61 average in 2560!

yes , stop being paranoid.

its not being paranoid they post loss after loss after loss, and give heir hector bonuses while they do it , i use all amd products right now (for next couple of days anyway) all my hopes for amd aside i just dont see how they can keep going, i mean there down to middle east investors to keep it afloat right now....

You know, the Crossfire 4870 X2 numbers are impressive, but at nearly 700W at peak.. Jesus! Better be using one hell of a watercooling solution or have one hell of a cold room to keep that thing going without bursting into flame. I think it's time for them to get a shrink to 45nm pronto.

Well nVidia has to do something don't they? Very impressive card from AMD. The thing though is that I don't think that AMD is dragging its feat. They obviously have some kincks to work out. The idle power consumption is obviously broken and that's pretty serious.

What's really going to fascinating in all of this is nVidia's response. They are pretty much forced to come up with a killer product in the $500 range otherwise they'll look stupid.

Also I'd love to see 3x GTX 280 SLI vs. 4870x2 CF numbers.

So far power and heat look to be the only possible issues with this card. Everything else looks fantastic.

4870X2 seems like a real win for ATi. I'd like to see some final reviews with updated drivers and some overclocking attempts, but this looks like THE card to have.

4870x2 in CrossFire is the first real performance gain we have seen from more than 2 GPUs. I am definitely not getting one of these before winter. I think I could leave the heat off an extra week if I was folding on these beasts.

Don't forget integrated video chips. I believe performance parts are a very tiny segment of their video card income. They aren't going to go belly up.

The power of these cards are amazing... 4870x2 quadfire has been disappointing, hopefully new drivers will fix it.

The power consumption and heat they give off is still off the scale, but that is to be expected with a fast card like that :)

Thats for the whole system power consumption, with TWO 4870x2.

Beta drivers and no power saving options enabled in the BIOS. I'm sure the final retail product will have improvements in both quadfire and temperatures.

Hell, my 3870x2 only idles at 45 degrees because i have the fan set manually to 40%. And might I add, the noise level is perfectly acceptable at 40%. Hopefully we'll have a near identical hsf on the 4870x2.

But will it be enough to make me want to replace my crossfire 4870s :p

not for me, although these numbers are increadibly impressive I like having two cards to mess around with, not to mention i'm not too happy with the power consumption of two of these, so if you are the early ... early addopters of crossfire I still its money well spent!

not to mention i already have people asking me to sell them my other 4870, which is weird because they are pretty well instock these days.

hahaha @above. I agree with you guys, i dont count crysis as something that uses the cards to its full potential. I think it uses only half of it as being useful, the other half its throwing crap at the card :D

Power consumption seems to be only a few watts more than 2 3870x2's. I think I may ditch my dual 3870x2 setup and grab 2 of these. Wonder if my 850w antec will still be good...it should right?

Two 4870X2's?
What would you need them for?!?!

Perhaps 1 is good enough, even if just to say goodbye to micro stutter!

a 30" lcd may be in my future. but your right. maybe I should grab 1 and then the other if it happens. I dunno, I like having the best I can get, hehe.

Surpisingly the 8800GTX holds up quite well for a lot of games running at 2560x1600 so a 4870x2 would totally cane :D

PS - The HP LP3065 30" lcd is an excellent screen and their prices are very reasonable now. My only gripes with the monitor would be that it makes a ticking noise when in standby mode and the factory standard colors are over saturated and need to be properly calibrated if you want to do any work involving color matching.
