Hey! Well i was testing my 4870x2 and i would like do know if everything checks out.

I get aprox. 30-60 frames throughout the whole night time bog level, beginning from when you start in the streets till the air support helicopters come.

My settings are All Max in CoD4 with Forced 8x AA edge Detect at 24x CFAA, Quality Adaptive AA, 16x AF, Quality Mipmap Detail @ 1280 x 1024.

i also get 60-80 frames in All Ghillied Up.

Specs:

Core2Duo 3.2 GHz
2 gb Corsair Dominator 1066 5-5-5-15
4870 x2

Thanx in Advance!

Also what are some good testing games besides CoD4, Grid, and World in Conflict?

I could be wrong, but that is pretty awful for a lower resolution. I get higher frames than that @ 1680x1050 fully maxed out and my X2 won't even work right.

thats what i thought, but i can shoot up in frames by lowering the AA and Adaptive AA. 24x CFAA should be do a toll on the card though, since there bullets, fog, and everything else going on. On other maps frames increase on 24x CFAA though. So anyone else run CoD4 with the same forced CCC settings as me and get similar/different frames?

well i dropped the AA to 4x but its only around 50-60 stable now, which is crap for this card. Anyone know whats wrong?

The Guru3D benches on 1280 x 1024 with 4xAA and 16xAF and al settings on max they got 167 frames. So me running the game with the same settings except instead of 4xAA using 12x CFAA, cuts the frames to a 1/3? i thought this card rips through AA?

EDIT: i just disabled adaptive AA, set AA to "use appp settings" and box filter and set AF to "use app settings" i started up "the bog" and set AA to 4x in game and max'ed out everything including AF and texture to trilinear. Mission starts, same 60 god damn frames. Anyone know wtf is wrong?

several people seem to have some kind of issue with COD4. I don't know what it is.

most people seem to say the frames are high and such, but theres still stutter. For me the frames are low with a little but not a lot of stutter. i tested stalker and got 120+ frames with the same forced settings, but stalker looked like crap anyway, so im installing World in Conflict right now to see how it runs.

Dude I have a regular old 4870 and I game at 1920x1200 everything maxed including AA and AF and I get around 80-150 FPS with an average of 80-90 FPS.... something is DEF wrong with ur system

Yeah it's called an AMD 4870 X2. Mine is definitely going back at this point, utter disappointment.

Sorry to hear its not working for you. Using 8.8 here specs in sig and getting 60fps minimum and some ridiculously high fps in lots of parts of the map on COD4. Not sure if it matters but under COD4 settings I also set it to Dual Video Card. CCC all factory settings. You can't blame the card .....

ill try that but in guru3d's benches

http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon-hd-4870-x2-review-crossfire/12

They had it running exactly the way i was, 4xAA (box) 16xAF and all game settigns maxed. They got 167 frames and i got like 70.....

im gonna reformat, install 8.8 drivers again, install CoD and WiC and test again, hope it works...

Just reformatted, clean, no drivers, so now the ? is, which version of catalyst to install?

Go with the 8.8 betas...from what ive read they seem to be the best. The official 8.8 have an earlier driver version and have caused problems for some users.

lol sry for acting like a retard :)

Also, it just says drivers, so do i get CCC from ATi's site, or is there a special one for the betas?

EDIT: Found the even newer 8.8 Beta's downlaod and installing right now.

I should mention and I also made a separate thread about this, when you uninstall go into your control panel > device manager > right click both 4870x2 and uninstall remove drivers then reboot and install your new drivers. I get clean installs now.

well i did a format, im about to install world in conflict now. i installed the drivers and CCC but i didnt touch any settings. i also installed experttool to crank my fans up to 65% but thats it.

Jusr Ran the World in Conflict Benchmark. All the CCC settings are defualt, and the AA is set to box by defualt. All in Game Settings were at max at 1280 x 1024 on my Core2Duo 3.2 GHz. Avg Frames = 31

I think my CPU may be bottlenecking so i'll try CoD in a bit since its not as CPU intensive.

I second your choice. I just got my card Friday and tried both the 8.8 Final and the 8.8 Beta. The beta drivers are the way to go. Card run's cooler and have not had any problems. I noticed that at rest/idle the drivers default clocks are 507/1000 and under load they jump up to 550/1500. Idle temps are approx 68/55 (gpu1/gpu2) and load temps are somewhere in the neighborhood of 75/92.

I reinstalled COD4 (patched to 1.7) and have not had a problem yet. I hope the Catalyst 8.9 drivers are more like the 8.8 beta drivers than they are like the 8.8 finals!

FYI Systm Specs below. Note my system is air cooled ATM and I am using a E8600

| Intel QX9650 | Asus Rampage Extreme | Diamond 4870X2 | 2x2GB G.SKILL DDR3 1600 | WD SE16 320MB vB3A0 RAID-0 & WD640 Storage | AuzenTech's X-Fi Prelude | Thermaltake ToughPower 1.2KW | Vista Ultimate x64 | MM U2-UF0 Black Wrinkle | Thermochill PA120.3 & PA120.2 | EK Supreme CPU | Laing DDC-2 Ultra in series | Dell 2407FPW |

what settings do you run CoD4 at?

19X12 with everything max'd. X2 stock clocks and E8600@4.5GHz (9x500).

DAMN for the cpu speed! Air or Water? Also so ur at 19200 x 1200, do u force AA or anything through CCC, and wat AA filter do you use?

Mine gets great frames in COD4.. with all settings maxed out it never drops below 100 fps and usually is bouncing off the 200fps limit I had setup. There is no need for 24x AA using edge detect. There is almost no visual difference after 8xAA. trying setting it for 12XAA instead of 24X. I went from a single 4870 to this card and my frames are a good amount higher. I am running the 8.8 Betas.

3.2ghz core2duo is plenty fast. Make sure you dont have vsync enabled. I just built a system with almost identical specs to yours except with an 8800GT and its getting better frames then that. What power supply are you running and just for comparisons sake have you tried 3dmark06?

yeah, in World of Conflict VSYNC was disabled and Frame Cap was disabled. And my PSU is an Enermax Galaxy 1000 watt. Also i have to go install 3dmark06 and vantage again, but last time i ran vantage before i formatted i got a gpu score of 13354 i beleive. So ill probably install those again and test.

I'm on air ATM. Redoing rig for this build. If everything checks out I hope to be back on water soon.

Nope, not doing anything special with respect to CCC. Using 4X AA. I just installed to see if everything checked out. So far...so good!

well overall i get around 70-90 frames with 12x CFAA and 16x AF with all in game settings on max in CoD4. These are frames while in combat with many enemies such as the Big mission.

So is that good? This is on a fresh install of vista and the latest 8.8 beta drivers

I also think my mobo might be a problem since its only pcie 1.0 i think...

Awesome improvement considering you were at 50 to 60 earlier...and thats at 12x CFAA. Not bad for a system thats over 1000 mhz slower than Shonuff's

PCIE 1.0 doesnt help you gain more FPS thats for sure. Have you noticed a switch on the back of your X2 card ? Thats for switching between PCIe1 and 2. You could always try switching it to PCIE1. Your card may not have this switch though. Not all X2 varients have it.

Ofcourse Ide recommend a PCIE 2 motherboard along with the fastest cpu you can buy and a 1920X1200 monitor and up if you want to get the most out of your card. At least thats what I understand from all the reviews Ive read. failing all that, go for the new motherboard+ cpu combo...or just the mb.

yeah, im gonna run the game at 4xAA 16xAF and all in game max on All Ghillied Up and test the fps. according to guru3d i should get around 170 fps since there test set up was really close to mine, heres hoping :)

well i played all ghillied up on guru3d's settings and i did indeed get between 120-200 frames. Then i decided to up the AA from 4x to 12x CFAA and i get 125 frames stable dropping to 100 when theres a lot of shadow/fog and 150 when theres only grass and trees in the distance.

So i guess 70-80 on bog is normal since theres so much smoke, gun fire, constant bullets, etc. Overall, if my card is running is the specs it should, im happy :)

sounds good speedy, glad to hear your card is performing up to par :D

haha thanx, i was really hoping to play crysis on very high with AA and AF with at least 50-60 frames, but that didnt come true :(

Also waiting on Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead, Far Cry 2, Dead Space, Spore, etc. to be released to really test this card :)
