4870x2 problems with L4D Demo

Hi, lets see if anyone can help me
I'm having a few problems while playing L4D Demo, with the PC on my sig i can max @ 1920x1200 (obiously)
Thing is, if i put any AA ingame or via CCC game fps drops dramatically... it usually is around 80-90 (almost in any situation, which i think its quite low for a Source game)
If i enable 2xMSAA fps drop to 45-50
if i enable 4xMSAA fps drop to 25-35 ...

45-50 makes the aim feel floaty with this type of game for me, so i disable AA... but i see ppl playing with lesser cards same ress with AA perfectly fine (and i dont mean a GTX280 that would be a scaling issue, but rather 4850 and such)

Final issue, with one of the new patches the demo allows for 2 GPU support via ingame options, disabling it has no impact whatsoever ...

Anyone else having issues ? if u got a 4870x2 what settings do u play ?

BTW, im using 8.11... FC2 = 60 fps with 4xAA max settings

Try setting mat_queue_mode 0 in L4D. Their engine still doesn't do multi-core too well. When I leave mat_queue_mode -1 (that's auto detect multiple cores), the mouse gets floaty.

Something is definitely wrong for you. I have a 9600gt and am at 1680x1050 with 4xAA and 16xAF running above 60fps 90% of the time.

He has a 4870X2. He could care less what fps you get with your *cough* 9600gt

not experiencing any of the issues that the OP has stated, I'm running every option maxed out, but I don't have fraps installed, so I have no idea what my fps is...other than that it's buttery smooth and @ 2560 x 1600

what are your temps and fan speeds?

I tried doing the mat_queue cmd ... gained like 3 fps : /

I just enabled Catalyst AI (had it disabled, had some wierd glitches on 8.10 on l4D, forgot to renable)

Glitches gone, and fps up by alot... 4xAA stays 60-80 2xAA 90-150
8xAA still unplayable... no matter where i am, 25-35 fps

Hmm, well that is odd, obviously you will need the cat a.i enabled for crossfire to work but even then if you were on a single 4870 you should be doing better.

Can't test right this minute but am pretty sure with max settings i don't dip below 60. If a driver update is not sorting you and other games are fine then perhaps re-install the game incase it is something in the game files that ain't right, either that or see if their is a config file that can be deleted.

Actually he was trying to find out if his FPS was out of the ordinary. I stated what I got with a slower card to show that his FPS was indeed strange.

ya, I installed 8.11 and cat AI was set to off by default. I ran left 4 dead demo, and w/ everything maxxed 4xaa and it felts smooth as butter. Its nice to know, even with just 1 of the cards in my 4870x2 it can run games maxed out

but ya, I think that performance was about right for only using 1 card.

I would love to try out this game however I'm still only halfway through Dead Space and only about 10 hours into Fall Out 3. Man, so many games to play, so little time. Oh well. Can't complain. It's a good time to be a gamer.


So to the OP, now you're currently at 1920X1200 with 4XMSAA and getting 60-80 frames per second? Seems like decent performance enough. Is you worry now that your perfomance isn't good enough at 8XMSAA?
