So what is everyone getting out of their new toy and what are your temps? Has anyone tried replacing the stock thermal pads with MX-2 paste?
 
I was wondering the same thing, but I think that many people are still waiting for them to arrive in the mail. Dont worry, I am pretty sure that there will be dozens of threads about people overclocking their 4870x2s in the next week or so. My 4870 was able to do 790/1100 no problem (well thats not true, I had to raise the fan speed slightly in order for it to not crash), so hopefully the 4870x2 is similar.
 
I got 800/950 stable. I got artifacts with memory at 1000. The overclock made almost no difference in 3dmark06. Will run Vantage tonight and then some games.
 
I honestly see no reason to overclock this. The gains over stability are negligible (some reviews did overclocking and the result was minimal. I can't remember who though sorry).
 
I have only set mine to 775 and 920 so far, It didn't last a second in crysis @ 800/1000
 
yep didnt make any difference to max it out on the ati software, not for the temperature increase
 
nope mine are all on the default settings

its quiet on idle and a little noisy gaming but you dont hear it over the game anyways
 
Yeah, wierd how overclocking makes little difference. My 4870 overclocked made a good size difference. I left my fan at default speed. 83C peak temps gaming and the fan spins up pretty dang loud when it gets hot and spins down to be quiet at idle.. which in my eyes is perfect.

qft, plus they run hot enough as it is...I'm still waiting on my 2nd card to arrive...

after reading a few reviews, it seems that OCing these cards, only see minimal gains
 
to be fair, heat isn't an issue if you're willing to turn the fan speed up. my card only reaches ~72c at full load with the fan at 50%. if the card can run at 90c stable I don't think you'll be held back by temperature while overclocking. the card just can't do it.
 
^ Yea, I crank my Fan speed to 80% and GPU's never pass 65C in crysis.

Not on my P35 board it doesn't... I had thought about crossfire but with a 4x pci-e slot it wasn't much of an option. I got the 4870x2 so i didn't have to go through a reload, recable, and all the tweaking I had to do to get my OC and ram stable.
