Hi guys,

Had my i7 build working for over day now, really happy with it. All appears to be working, so long as you keep your ears closed!! I have a 4870x2 running, and im finding the noises it makes VERY odd. I''m assuming its the 4870x2 making these noises from listening carefuly and from hearing the noise when performing certain tasks.

To sum up the noise, it's like a crackling, snapping sort of noise, not loud, but it you can hear it if you know its there. At first i thought it could have been a rattly fan or perhaps my dvd drive vibrating...(sounds "kinda"like rice krispies when you put milk on them :p or a static type of sound)

At the time of writing i can safely say the noise cant be heard. However, should I hover over my sidebar, as the little bar/line that gently appears to the left of the sidebar, i can hear the noise. Once the line/bar thing has been animated, the noise is gone. (the same happens when the bar disapears). The same thing happens with any MSN window with animated emoticons, if i open the chat window (with the emoticon there), the noise is there, close it and its gone.

In games (tested in HL2 and Portal so far) the noise is there all the time, and i'm pretty sure its louder than the Sidebar example, perhaps im wrong, it could just be because its always there that makes it appear louder.

Just a quick work on temps, in HL2 the max temp i've seen is 84 (temp taken from second monitor with game running)

Does anyone have any vague idea as to what this could be? I'm hoping its not my card slowly dying!

Cheers,

Dave

Temps are fine but what you seem to have is a noisy cap. I've had it on several of my gpus and while there is no issue gameplay wise the sound can be annoying. I would RMA the card regardless.
