I have noticed the screen flickers at times in games such as GRID and Oblivion. It seems to occur at any framerate, with and without V sync. I thought it might have been adaptive AA but testing proved otherwise.

Using the 8.8 betas

Was this ever an issue on the 3870X2 or Nvidia duel GPU equivalents, or hell, does it occur on SLI or Crossfire period.
 
I tested 2 4850's in Crossfire and Grid never flickered. In fact I had it on max settings and the game ran absolutely perfect. (1680x1050)
 
Flickers are normal when the FPS is very high and the LCD monitor cannot keep up.
Have you tried any other games beside Grid and Oblivion?

Flickers are not normal. I have never seen a flicker on any of my LCD screens.
 
Uh oh...

Does it look like interference of some sort- like a bad signal on a TV? Lighter/darker bars that roll and flicker up and down the screen?

I had the same problem with x1900xt crossfire a few years ago, and recently saw a thread on Xtremesystems of someone having the same problem with 4870 crossfire I believe... I had originally narrowed my issue down to the fact that I had to connect to my CRT using a DVI-VGA adapter, it would flicker whenever I did that, but a direct DVI connection to a LCD worked fine.

I'm VERY interested in hearing what you have to say on this, as I have been heavily considering a 4870x2, but part of me has been afraid that I'd run into the same strange flickering issue.

EDIT: This is the thread I was talking about over at Xtremesystems- http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=196387 There were a lot of good suggestions made, but none seemed to work for him- perhaps you would have better luck (if you are indeed having the same issue?)
