4870x2 and ddr5?

Anyone know if theres still a shortage on ddr5 memory? At the minute its still impossible to buy a 1 gig 4870, just wondering how hard its gonna be to find a 2 gig 4870x2 on launch day. :confused:
 
That's becuase 1GB 4870's arent out yet, the AIB's have to make them themselves and then release them, hence you don't see them.

AFAIK, the GDDR5 shortage should be gone since 4870's seem to be in stock everywhere now, and they're probably piling up 1GB chips for the 1GB 4870 and 4870X2's as we speak
 
My understanding is that oems will make their own 1gb DDR 3 variations because of DDR 3 being easy to get and all 2gb DDR5 cards will be built by ATI themselves and shiped out to oem dealers like visiontek, powercolor. This allows amd to work on nothing but the 2gb models and the oems will be able to do the others. So, I dont think supply will be a problem. Remember we are still a month away for the official 4870x2 release. The hardware is done they are just fine tuning drivers.
