4870x2 air cooling

I'm thinking of getting a 4870x2 on my new system. Does anyone know of what I should look for in an aftermarket air cooler? Should the ones that work on the 3870 work? Or the ones that work on a 4870? Or are they all the same

There are no aftermarket air coolers compatible with the 4870X2 at the moment. You'll be stuck with stock cooling, at least for the time being.

True. The x2's literally have 2 cores side by side. A "regular" cooler, if it would mount, would only cover one of them. You're SOL until someone produces (at a high expense, I would surmise) a specific cooler for the x2's.

X2's currently have no offerings. I was waiting on the thermalright T-rad but its incompatible. I have seen people put the universal hr-03, one wrapping around the card and the other one not but that takes up major room

Blech. I don't like that block, but it apparently works decent. I think the Koolance block is awesome on the x2's. Or, Swiftech is releasing a bolt kit to put 2x MCW60's on them.

My friend has 2 of these cards and they seem to get hot but I'm willing to bet if you were to set the Fan Speed up a little higher that they would run very cool. The cooler seems like its a very well made cooler for being stock.

The PCI-E bridge chip probably doesn't really need extra cooling. As for the Zalmans keeping up with the heat load, they'd do the job, but not all that well. I'd venture that even the stock cooler would probably perform as well as the Zalmans.
