It's always been a 2GB card. I don't believe there is a 1GB version.

August is gonna be an expensive month for me: 30" LCD + 4870x2 + X-Fi Titanium = lots and lots of Ramen noodles for lunch & dinner :p

I'm looking around for a 30" LCD. What are you going to get if I may ask? Thanks!

I'm leaning towards the Gateway XHD3000 or Samsung 305T. I'll be using it as a TV, as well. The Gateway has lots of direct inputs, Samsung only has DVI-D so I'd need a tuner card for TV. It'll come down to the best price at the time I'm ready to buy. Which 30" are you looking at?

The same ones and the Dell 3008 but I here the scaler causes lag. What are your thoughts?

Not sure which set you're talking about but it may be possible to disable the scaler for certain inputs. It may be disabled by default depending upon the signal its receiving. The scaler is usually used for converting the lower quality signals so they don't look like crap on a high res display.

The Dell 3008 was the one I was talking about in reference to the lag problem.

The Gateway's scalar can be bypassed when running the full 2560x1600 resolution. I don't know if the 3008 has that capability. I think the 3008 is way too overpriced.

Yeah, my concern is dropping down to non-native. Is there a way to bypass it then with the Gateway?

I have the XHD3000 so i can say a few things:
At 2560x1600 scaler is OFF so theres absolutely no mouse lag. Perfect.
Droping res turns of scaler and there is no way to turn it off. This will give you mouse lag to a point where it will piss you off (it feels like your mouse and on screen cursor are on a rubber band and the cursor on screen is always trailing behind). Playing a FPS is impossible with lower res. However racing games/platformers or anything without a mouse (using a controller or wheel) work fine.
That being said the hd4870x2 will handle native res fine and it's up to you whether you prefer a few lower fps every now and then or a rubber band mouse lower res.

Edit: running games in windowed mode while having native res of 2560x1600 gets rid of mouse lag. Problem is the fps drop is so bad it's just better to run the game at 2560x1600 on vista (it could be a vista issue though, as it has to double render). Could anyone comment on incredibly low fps while using windowed mode?

Great review on Guru3D
Pretty much the same as on [H].
I'm anxious to see how this card will work in Crossfire with a single 4870 and another X2.

Looks like a win for the red team for sure.:D

Unreal: How does the XHD3000's scalar do when upscaling video, TV, etc. to 2560x1600? Are the pictures sharp? Any blurriness or other issues?

No the image quality is perfect for me. I run xbox 360 at 1080p, ps3 1080p hdmi and wii 480p. All look and work great, there is no ghosting and like I said with a controller I can't notice the lag. It's only noticeable with a mouse because of how precise it is. I have a bunch of videos on youtube if you wanna take a look at the xhd3000 and see its features:

Thanks for the info!! I think my decision is made! ;)

I just tested windowed mode: if you turn off aero manually or set it in properties you get the same fps as fullscreen with whatever res you choose and have no mouse lag. Just make sure you have a black bg

Never, ever, seen benchmarks like that...

100+ FPS on new games at max res w/ AA & AF enabled?
Holy %$#@...

Almost makes itself useless :p
Like buying a car that does 300 MPH to drive to work in.

Ignore the 3008 which has input lag, just get the 3007, perfect monitor IMO

If you need other inputs for something like a crappy xbox360, get a 1080 TV, compared to native 2560x1600 PC gaming its going to look like ass anyhow :p

I spy with my little eye something odd about that review. A GTX 280 at 1600x1200 getting only 68fps in CoD4? Hmm...

Frames per second Gameplay
<30 FPS very limited gameplay
30-40 FPS average yet very playable
40-60 FPS good gameplay
>60 FPS best possible gameplay

I like the way they did this, and agree with the numbers. Crysis fanboys who think 20fps avg is playable take note.

Yeah just finished reading the whole article, looks amazing!
Now if ATI/AMD can just get the driver shenanigans in order I may switch sides.

God I hope ATi cuts us gamers a break and offers this card for $449.99-499.99. That would be most excellent. They will sell a TON more cards at that price.
