4870 X2 problems, 214% GPU usage...

installed my 4870 X2 with 8.8's, changed profile to Manual with 55%.

Launched 3dmark 06 and before it even started a test (didn't even pop up) computer crashed and restarted.

I get back into windows and it is at 100% fan speed (not using any profile) and says 214% GPU utilization.

I hit custom profile to set fan to 55%, works as normal, but GPU utilization still reports 214% constant on GPU 1 and 0 % on GPU 2.

Any thoughts?
 
Also, should I see anything about crossfire in CCC? because I have no options or mention of it. I do see both "gpu's"
 
Well I apparently can't do anything GPU related or I get an instant reboot. Pwnage, I love this card as much as the hassle of getting it "up and running".
 
no, its AI is on it uses both gpus, cross fire is 2 cards not a single 4870x2, the bridge chips takes care of the "crossfire" on board and doesnt need drivers for that part
 
Well i'm about ready to quit.
Tried CD drivers, I get "unable to enable device drivers"
8.8 official, can't run anything without crash
8.8beta, still can't run anything without a crash.

Temps are fine.

Vista 64, Kind of running low on ideas.
 
The GPU utilization, at least for me doesn't work. It shows at times I'm going over 540% which I know is not the case-no worries crawlgsx, just disregard the readings :)
 
I can live with that,

But I can not launch ANYTHING GPU related or I get an INSTANT reboot, doesn't matter which driver version. I can't get 8.5** to install, 8.8 beta and 8.8 final both crash.
 
You uninstalled all Nvidia drivers, yes?

Could be your PSU, but I dunno. Is there any error you get related to the crash?
 
When I initially installed my 4870x2, when switching from crossfired 3870x2, for some reason Vista tried to revert back to using some Nvidia drivers (from when I still had an 8800GTS). This ended up with Vista thinking it had mismatched cards so only one GPU was enabled, driver-wise.

I ended up using Driver Sweeper and Driver Cleaner to remove the Nvidia drivers and ATI drivers. After this, I was able to get everything running successfully. Give that a shot if you haven't already.

Yah, it's just a bug...and it shouldn't be causing the issues crawl is getting.
 
I have the bug but all it does for me is rasie temps.

An ati beta tester said that the bug was reported but was never fixed since there was no way of reproducing it.
 
Make sure you have the latest BIOS for your motherboard. I had issues with random shutdowns with my 4870X2 until I upgraded mine.
 
+1 on bios.... Plus those of you who are on xp32 and cant find the profiles area... Look under C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\ATI\ACE\Profiles....... The thing was i coudlnt find the profiles with the paths the other guys were using..But found them there... I made one profile and called it 50 and made one profile and called is 40.. Each was for the % of fan i set in there... finally works ok :)
 
I have a p35, I'll try the bios this morning.

I have a Thermaltake Toughpower I believe. I honestly forgot *doh*. and because ti is mounted in the bottom (Antec nine hundred) all the stickers are hidden lol.

It's at least the 650w but I believe it is the 700w.
 
Difference in temp is normal. it's the way the air goes across each GPU. (fan is closer to one).
 
Thanks , what about difference in clocks on the both cores? Anyone have this problem?
 
I wouldn't say it is normal.

I had it happen to me a few times according to GPUZ, but my card is all fubar'd.

well if you change the clocks in xml, they take immediate effect to the 2nd core, but the 1st still idles till you game. im still trying to fix that, but as of right now thats how mine is working. And in GPU-Z my clocks read 750/900 for each gpu at all times, while CCC automatically idles the cores, which gpu seems to miss....
 
well you have to do it to each core. On the right side of OVERIDE lock
 
Thats very strange, Im using 8.7 Drivers for both XP and Vista and have not experienced such problem.
 
@speedy523 sorry dude , there is some problem. MIne are both at 790/940
