I've got a visiontek 4870 right now. I'm planning on upgrading to a crossfire setup eventually. I could get another 4870 however then I'd have spent more money than an x2 would have cost me and I'd still only have 512m of memory per chip. Maybe the 4870 prices will drop when the x2 comes out though. My other option would be to get an x2 and run that in crossfire with my current 4870. Then I'd have 3 gpus, however I'm pretty sure the 2 gpus on the x2 would act as if they only had 512m of memory each instead of their full gig. And this is all assuming the drivers allow me to do 3 gpu crossfire that way. I'm really hoping one company comes out with a 4870 x2 with 512m per gpu at a reduced price around $450. I had read that ATI was planning on an x2 that was a step down from he top of the line card they just introduced, but I'm not sure if they meant another 4870 x2 or if they were referring to the 4850 x2.
Are there any other 4870 owners out there in my same predicament? What are your plans? Do you think ATI will accomadate us with a 1gig version of the 4870 x2?
