4870 showing as unknown

As you can see the new ATI card I got installed as "unknown"




everything works except for anything that polls the device manager looking for display adapter as I do not have one. So no Futuremark no CCC, no benchmarking and no display properties as they come up as vgasave.

Quick note, I did a full uninstall and drive cleaner and installed only the latest 8.10 drivers.


Any help would be appreciated!
 
That's a crazy looking device manager...is it a windows skin?

Try right clicking and look for hardware changes. Hopefully it will find it.
 
by the position of the listing looks to maybe pertain to the sound processor on the 48xx card
 
I've been having the same issue with my 4850; reboot and it's an unknown card

I guess I should say that any 3d applications game/design works but it seems like there is no way to directly communicate with the card as those applications that do seem to look for the display adapter setting in the device manager of which mine is gone.

Hopefully others have encountered this and their maybe a registry fix or windows process that will correct it.

Have you tried uninstalling it from the device manager? This will cause windows to re-detect it on next boot, and perhaps it will come up as a display adapter next time.

Nope, that has a different entry name. In XP it's Unknown Device iirc, and I think in Vista it shows up as HD Audio Device. I'm running a 260 now so can't be exact.
 
Yes I have tried from the manager and from safe mode it comes up as video device then when the drivers are installed it goes to the properly working unknown device.
 
Well I have tried everything now including new motherboard drivers to try and get this card to be recognized properly with no luck.

Any tips/ideas/guesses/wild thoughts would be great.
