4870 overclocking issues

I've got 2 4870's in crossfire and wanted to try some ocing, so without reading up on a normal oc for a 4870 I maxed the sliders in CCC just to see what would happen(bad idea). I immediately got artifacts so bad that it covered my screen and locked my computer up. Resetting my computer got me to my desktop for a few seconds before it artifacted and locked up, so I decided to swap my cards around so I could at least get to my desktop and open up CCC. With CCC open and the misbehaving card selected any time I try to lower the memory overclock at all my computer locks up. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers which seem to wipe the overclock initially but randomly my computer will lock up and after reboot I'll check GPUZ to find the overclock is back. Any ideas on how I can permanently rid the card of the overclock?
