Can anyone please tell me if the Seasonic SS 600HT (total of 36A on the +12V rails) is enough for the radeon 4870? Also I have E8400,4gigs ram, one optical drive, and 2 hard disks. After building up the above system i installed windows and the card was fine. After a reboot the screen is all messed up, can't even see windows. Another restart after that and even the post screens are corrupted mess with vertical lines across the screen. Is it the card or the PSU? Please help!!! Thanks

that psu should be way more than strong enough for your system. even a decent 500 watt psu shouldnt break a sweat with that setup.

Thanks so i take it that it is the card that is faulty.

More than likely. I'm using a Enermax Liberty 620w with a +12V rail @ 36a. No problems at all. The only way to be absolutely sure though would be to try the card in another system, or swap power supplies.

Either the card is faulty or your system can't handle the extra heat from the card. I was having massive artifacting with my 9600gt until I swapped the direction of my fans. Try opening the case up and using a house fan to blow air into the comp (one of the stand alone ones). If that fixes the problem long enough to do the fan fix, then great - heat was the issue (cheap, easy fix). If not, then heat is not the issue, and the card is likely faulty.

Also, if you get the card into Windows (with the ghetto house fan config), try some gaming to see if you are still getting artifacts under load. If the card runs well under load with the ghetto fan setup, get some more fans or rethink your airflow in the case. Remember, hot air rises, so use that to your advantage.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Unfortunately i cant get any screen signal from the card at all.

I have Seasonic S12-600 and the 4870 runs fine for me. If PSU is not enough you usually get a system freeze and not artifacting.

Thanks just wanted to be sure it's the card. It was too weird to have corruption and artifacts even during the POST screens and blame it on the PSU.

I'm using a 4870 with a 450W OCZ ps. Working pretty well for the last few days. You should be fine.
