Ok to elaborate on what i mean. My current 8800GTX has the 2 x 6pin power sockets orientated to the side, not at the end of the card going 'into' the case. The Tagan PSU i have has 2 thick dedicated PCI-e power cables which, when plugged in stick out a mile as they dont bend well.

This means i cant put the side of my case on....no real biggy since im going to be upgrading soon and was wondering do all ATI 4850/4870 cards come with 'forward' facing power connectors? Also do they still need 2 power cables plugged in?

It'd be nice to get the side back on again nice and tidy like...:p

Cheers,

4870/50 have the PCIe power connectors in their standard position. The 4870 has two and the 4850 has one. The 4870x2, however, has one 6-pin and one 8-pin on the side.

Aaahaa thats what the 2 extra orange ones are for on the second PCI-e power cable...

Just thinking is there really any point in upgrading to a 4870 from a 8800GTX? i mean i usually game at either 1280x720 or 1360x768 as im using a 50" panny plasma....

I don't think you'd see a very large difference at that resolution. But, if you do decide to get the 4850 or 4870, neither will cost an arm and a leg.

Suppose so, if i sell my old X1900XTX, the GTX and the 2 faulty GTX's i have for spares then i'll probably be near enough to affording a 4870....or a 4870x2....maybe:D

in some of the newer games (clear sky, crysis) their might be but not sure if I would bother. a 4850 is faster then a 8800GTX but not that much. you would have to get a 4870 to be a good upgrade.

You didn't RMA these?

I acquired them from my work. They'd been used constantly 24/7 for 6 months creating Digital Elevation Models of flooding the UK. Theyre pretty fried, still offer up a picture but dont like any kind of stress...

no point at that resolution. God i wish i had a 50 inch to play games on lol. That would be SICK!!!!

Its pretty awesome yeah, having it hooked up to a Kef 7.1 sound system puts the icing on the already quite delicious cake!

Ofcourse im 28 so its taken me quite a while to get to this point...;)
