4870 1Gb memory option with non-reference cooler

where are the 'next batch' of cards??

by that i only mean _*_1Gb_*_ and _*_non-reference coolers_*_ with/or without factory overclocked

i have been dying to get a new card and almost went straight for the first batch of the 4870's thinking that they would suit me the best.

soon after i decided i would wait for something with a better cooler and the 1Gb of vRAM that the cards were supposedly initially designed with. (i forget where i heard that one)

i know i will probably only benefit, at this stage, from running high resolutions but i have convinced myself that the extra bucks will be worth it.

im in australia and a search revealed only one card that is 1Gb with a non-reference cooler.

it will retail at ~$415AUD and is said to have the core overclocked to 850MHz and the memory overclocked to 950MHz (3.8Gbps)

compared to the same Powercolor 1Gb with reference cooler at ~$390AUD makes the zerotherm cooler worth only 25 bucks with an effectively free overclock!

the downside to going with 1Gb, as expected, is the expensive GDDR5 vRAM. 512Mb Powercolor (stock with ref. cooler) is ~315AUD making the extra 512 megs worth ~$75AUD.

so powercolor want 100 bucks for OC, new cooler, and double the frame buffer. who thinks that is worth it for yourself and why? im going for this option i reckon.

a few other board partners have upped the vRAM to 1Gb, HIS and Sapphire to name names. the site i used is http://www.staticice.com.au/index.html for stores in Aus.
 
i made my own reckon as i buy my 4870.i use 512 mb version of it.i thought i could buy a 4850 as price/performance card and next summer to buy a new price/performance card instead of buying a 4870 512 mb standart:)
later i thought i needed a strong card for rendering and bought a 4870.if you ask me;its little brother 4850 is a better option.coz it is cheap and if we compare them;4870 is not worth to buy as 4850 is so cheap and good:)i advice you to look for 1 gb 4850...
if you insist on 4870;i advice you to buy that powercolor with non-reference cooler.why?why not to but our own cooler with a 1 gb reference 4870?i think powercolor will do this better than us:)no need to effort as it is done...
but i say one more time;have a look at 4850's.and you may buy another card next year by that segment if you dont approve the performance of 4850.

if problem is advice;4850 will be enough even for high res.
Also i must add; hd4850 is 50 percent cheaper than hd4870.but hd 4870 is just 23 percent better than hd 4850 in general performance:)now tell me;which one is a better option?4850 or 4870?or 4850 cf???

Your entire writing style is the problem. You need to use the spacebar between sentences and stop using ";" after almost everything you say. Please just use some decent sentence structure and proper punctuation. Also just using paragraphs would really be helpful. Im not trying to be a grammar nazi becasue I am too lazy to uses commas and proper punctuation myself but your writing style is not even close to normal no matter what your native language is. ;)
 
Hmm;i havent ever thought about this:)sometimes languages and grammar rules are mixed:)some german,some turkish;some english,some russian:D and using comma is a kinda habit:)may be i should use paragraphs instead of it:)
 
I understood everything Kansu said... all you need to do is get the concept out of what he's saying. People can't really change their writing skills in 1 day, let alone habits that are hard to break. English isn't my primary language and I was in his boat before, so I know how he feels...
 
Ummm, back on topic maybe? :p

At the moment the only time 1gb will be useful is running GRID at 2500x1600, as that appears to be the only game than smashes the 512mb mark, and only at high resolution. I remember a year ago DIRT was the first game I played on my 320mb card that actually used all the video RAM (other than oblivion with mods, but that hardly counts because you can turn up the graphics to insane levels by modding the config files and bring the most powerful cards to their knees).

So maybe on the horizon 1gb will become useful, however at the moment the only game that uses it is GRID at resolutions only seen on 30" monitors.

You're just going to have to wait until the cards are actually out and available to the public.

By then there should be some good reviews comparing the differences between 512MB and 1GB.

Pricing something that's not even out yet is fairly useless as prices can and will change once it hits the market...
 
i can order any of the cards i listed above at the prices offered. the stores are just waiting for the stock to clear customs is my guess.

another guess would be that the wholesalers havent cleared the stock or even something like the cards being held back whilst the 4870x2 dual gpu cards get a bit of a head start.
 
ordered one today. finally after all the waiting i got one of 2 that the online store said they could secure :)

should be interesting to see how it will OC further.

i still havent found any store that lists 1Gb 4870's as 'in stock'. not one. maybe its just me :/
