HI i just got the 4850 x2, with an i7 920 at 3ghz and 6gb of ram, i'm running vista 64 and cat 9.2, my first problem, is that 3d mark vantage has major artifacts, someone told me its vantage's fault, so that's fine, however running Team fortress 2 at 1920 and max settings, i get 150+ fps at open areas, but in firefights, I get 10s, which is utterly unplayable, my hardware should be able to handle tf2, since i can do L4d with the same settings at buttersmooth 60s, is it a driver issue? or is my card just doa, thanks!

It's neither. TF2 has FPS drops for everyone regardless of your GPU. The reason for this is because TF2 only uses single core of the cpu where l4d can use multicore (even all 4 cores). You can turn the same mode on in TF2 by typing in mat_queue_mode 2 which will turn on the same mode as l4d. However be warned as this mode is still experimental and not properly implemented an can cause crashes.
It sounds like you've got something else going on that's wrong, I've got a 4870 1Gb and a much slower cpu and don't get anything below like 40fps in TF2 running 1920x1200, max settings and 4x AA/16x AF, averaging 50-70fps.
Yeah you'll get drops in tf2 like unrealsword mentioned, but it should be nothing even in the realm of unplayability, especially on that setup.

Are you overclocking the 4850x2? I put everything on max in the auto tune, and got artifacts like crazy in 3dmark06 until I turned it off. :-(
yea i'm pretty sure something's wrong, but i can't figure it out, i'm not overclocking the card btw, but yea it shouldn't be unplayable.. my power supply's 800w, and its an ocz elitexstream, which is supposed to be amazing, good cpu, good gpu, i dont see the problem....
Does TF2 have a proper Crossfire profile? Disable CAT AI and see if your FPS is worse or better. If it's better the game doesn't have a Crossfire profile because disabling CAT AI turns off on board Crossfire for the X2. Here's what can happen to any system using Crossfire tech when a profile doesn't exist in the driver. See the difference between 9.1 and 9.2 for the X2-
If a person using an HD 4870 X2 on the 9.1 driver were to turn off CAT AI their FPS would jump from 30 to 74 @ 1920 in the above title because the card would then behave like an HD 4870 1Gb. It's a neat trick to know when support hasn't been added yet in the driver and you're getting poor performance vs what you would get on a single card.
