Thought I would pass this along to anyone who is worried about the heat.
I have had these two cards for about a week and a half, and so far love them. Performance is great.

They do run HOT. They idle near 80 degrees. HOWEVER, under load, the temps only get up to 54 degrees, which is actually cooler than what my old 8800gt was running. I am going to try and mount a fan near them, see if that helps the temps.

Got to be a typo? Mine reaches 84-86C in games, and 96C in furmark :p Idles @ about 78C.

You should try that fan speed hack that's floating around the net. The problem is probably that your card's fan isn't running fast enough at idle which causes the high temps, so increasing the speed should help a lot.

I have identical results as this, but my stock fan is 40%.
When I saw the 90C in 3dmark06 I about shit my pants, but for regular gaming I see 70C peak. It's barely into the 'yellow' on the temperature gauge (in CCC). Stock settings I was seeing about 75C idle and 80C load. When changing the fan to 40% I didn't hear any noise difference, anything under 40% is inaudible in my case. Anything over 45% and I get a high-pitched whining sound that's quite noticable. Even running at forced manual 40%, the card never reaches temperatures that would cause the fan to need more juice. Heck, even under load with 40% speed, it doesn't reach stock idle temperatures...

Also remember that the idle clockspeeds have yet to be fixed.
They're idling at something like 500 mhz when it should be below 200 mhz. I think the MSI bios fixes that, but ATI has said a new driver will be released to fix it. That should really reduce idle temps, too.

Card runs very cool, imo.
Especially compared to some cards with dual-slot coolers and other singles, of course. 8800GT, GTS, and GTX spring to mind.

Aftermarket cooling isn't necessary for these cards unless you're going to be volt modding for those 900 mhz clocks... I think ATI ran the fans slow on purpose so people would go out and buy more Acceleros!
 
I'm getting aftermarket cooling so I can have reasonable overclocked temperatures without it being louder than every fan in my case combined =) Have a Coolink GFXChilla4 coming.
 
In case anyone is worried about increasing fan speeds on their card and invalidating their warranty, Visiontek customer support has informed me that as long as the clocks remain stock on the cards, you can increase the fan speeds at will without risk of killing your lifetime warranty.
 
On a side note, has anyone figured out what the 3 temperature sensors are for in GPU-Z? I know sensor #1 is GPU temperature, but the others?
