Ok I am looking at getting a new video card. My mother board is a Intel® 975X Chipset.

My monitor is a 22 inch samsung.

I do primarily most of my gaming on my PS3 and was wondering if I should buy a 4870 with 1 gig off tiger direct for about $190 with cashback. Or should i save some money and buy a 4850 1gig off of newegg for about $150 with a discount code.

Should i spend the extra money on the 4870 or just buy the 4850 and crossfire it later if i need it because by that time the price will go down?

For $40 difference get the 4870. Thats a terrific card especially at 1680x1050
 
The 4870 is definitely worth that price. It's a great card, and you'll be able to run pretty much everything maxed out on your monitor.
 
When the 4800-series launched and the 4870 was $299 while the 4850 was <$199, the 4850 was the better choice for budget gamers. Now that the 4870 appears to be under $200 in the states, it doesn't make much sense to buy a 4850 unless you can find it for $130 or below...
 
For that monitor, get a 4870. It will have plenty of power for a 1680x1050 monitor for at least a year if not more.

Also to note, I have 4850 crossfire and the new 8.11 drivers won't work... so I'd go with the single card solution just for the ease.
 
Ok. I will probably go with the 4870 then. Also I am assuming that it will work with my motherboard? And can someone tell me how the Cashback thing works. I think its 15% and the deals over tomorrow.

Also is that 15% taken off the original price or the price with the rebate taken out?
