Hey i just installed an MSI 4850 using 8.9 CATS.

Now i could have sworn these cards underclock to 500 / 750 in 2D. However in CCC and in GPU-Z it shows my clocks as 625 / 993. I also could have sworn these programs will show your current clocks so it should be reporting it correctly.

it should be idle @ 160/500 but a simple bios flash will get it down from 500/750

I think you misunderstood me. My 2D clocks are 625/993. The same as my 3D clocks. Strange right, I know. This feature worked just fine in my old card (x1800xt).

I don't really want to go out trying to fix a problem that shouldnt be there in the first place. Im gonna try swapping drivers and see what happens.

Note this is an MSI card with aftermarket cooler, I received it from newegg 9/18. 2 days ago.

If your card isnt underclocking itself in power-saving mode, an alternative is using 'Auto Overclocking' in Ati Tray tools..
