4850 not outputing VGA and Component simultaneously

Title says it all. My 4850 wont output to both a VGA monitor and an older 720p LCD at the same time. Obviously the fix would be to buy a brand new TV with HDMI ports but thats clearly not the cost effective method. What's weird is my old x850 will do VGA and S-video at the same time but S-video looks like shit on an "hd-ready" set.

any ideas as to why this wont work?
