4850 fan seems to be dying

This motherfucker right here seems to be having trouble. It's all cleaned out, but the fan mysteriously stops working every so often before coming back to life. It's not a software problem as this will happen if it just sits there in the BIOS or something.

Does this look like the normal PCB? Should I have any trouble replacing it with another cooler?

ASUS RMA is going to be a PITA so I'd rather do something myself. Anyone have any brilliant ideas outside of just replacing it? What should I get?

Have you tried manually setting a fan speed in the control panel?

I've known some fans that will stop once the RPM gets too low but if you crank them to 100% they will still run. That might help in the short-term.

yes, and it doesn't make a difference.

when it's stopped, it's stopped. it won't even spin up when the computer is starting.
 
I had to oil my 4850 fans as i run them @ 100% since day one. they were making dry bearing noises.
